India: death toll from chemical factory explosion rises to 7

NEW DELHI, Sept 14 (NNN-Xinhua) -- The death toll from the chemical factory explosion on Wednesday in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has risen to seven, as one more body was recovered in the methane gas boiler tank, police said Friday.

The gas boiler tank exploded on Wednesday at Mohit Petro Chemical Factory in Bijnor district, some 440 km from state capital Lucknow.

At the time, 11 people were working at the site repairing the tank that had developed some fault a couple of days back.

Release was ordered after considering a representation submitted by his mother, but Chandrashekhar thinks the real reason of his released is because UP government is “scared”. The Dalit leader, however, expects the government to “frame some charges against” him.

28-yr-old woman raped by 2 youths in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 13 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two youths after she was abducted from her house in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday in a village under the Kairana police station.

Based on a complaint by the woman, the youths were arrested, Station House Officer (SHO) Bhagat Singh said.

She has alleged that the youths abducted her from her house and raped her near a tube well, he said.

Four Christian priests arrested for converting Hindus

Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh; 12 Sep 2018: Four priests have been arrested and a Police Inspector suspended for converting Hidus in Jaunpur.

Locals accused Durga Prasad Yadav, Chief Administrator of the local Church, for using ‘magic water’ and ‘blind faith’ to convert Hindus to Christianity.

According to Punjab Kesary, active Christian Missionaries have converted about 10,000 people in Jaunpur, Azamgarh and Gazipur to Chistianity.

20-yr-old Dalit youth beaten to death in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 9 (PTI) A 20-year-old Dalit youth was beaten to death by unidentified persons at Budhana town here, police said on Sunday.

The youth went missing on Friday and his body was found in a field a day after, Station House Officer (SHO)Perbhaker Kentura said.

He said a case was registered against unidentified persons based on a complaint by the youth's father Ram Kishan .

The deceased, identified as Kapil, had injuries to his head, the SHO said, adding that the body was handover after post mortem.

Woman gang- raped in UP, India

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 7; PTI: A 26-year-old woman was raped by three persons in a car in the district here, police said Friday.

The woman, hailing from Lucknow, had taken a lift in the car on August 27 when she did not get a bus for reaching Sitapur, following which she was taken to a place near a cold storage and allegedly raped, Superintendent of Police City Dinesh Tripathi said.

The woman, in an FIR lodged with the police yesterday, said that she was dropped in Sitapur late at night by three persons who fled from the spot, the SP said.

Woman raped by two in UP, India

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 2; PTI: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men, including the president of BKU youth wing of Shamli, in a hotel in Haridwar, police said Sunday.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim, she was brought to the hotel on the pretext of being provided treatment for her father, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said.

She alleged that she was brought in a car to the place and was raped by district Bharatiya Kisan Union youth wing chief Vinod Nirwal and his friend Zahid Hasa, the CO said.

50,000 graduates, 28,000 post graduates and 3,700 PhDs apply for 62 Peon vacancies

Telecom Department of Uttar Pradesh Police has received more than 81,000 job applications for 62 peon vacancies. Applicants include about 50,000 graduates, 28,000 post graduates and 3,700 PhDs.

According to a report in India Today, the minimum eligibility for peon post in UP police is class 5 pass (primary school), and the starting salary is Rs 20,000. But the huge number of applicants and their qualifications had the department puzzled, resulting postponement of the recruitment process.

Ramesh requested to be jailed – authorities obliged

Lucknow; A man named Ramesh requested authorities to put him in jail. He attached his ‘kundali’ with his application.

According to Punjab Kesari, Ramesh lodged an application with the District Magistrate requesting to be jailed for a day. District Magistrate approved his application, and Ramesh was jailed for a day.

Why buying only 36 Rafale jets when 126 required, asks Congress

Mathura, Sep 2 (PTI) The Congress has asked the Narendra Modi government why it inked a deal with France's Dassault Aviation to buy just 36 aircraft when 126 fighter jets were required.

The party's national spokesperson, Priyanka Chautrvedi, asked if there's any urgency, why the government did not ask the French company to supply all the aircraft in one go.

"The first lot of the aircraft will be supplied in 2019 and the rest in 2022. If there is any urgency, the whole lot should have been supplied by 2019," she said here Saturday.
