New Farakka Express derails near Rae Bareli in UP; 7 killed

Lucknow/New Delhi, Oct 10; PTI: Nine coaches and the engine of the New Delhi bound New Farakka Express derailed near Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh early Wednesday, killing at least seven people and seriously injuring nine, officials said.

The accident on the New Farakka Express (14003) that was on its from Malda in West Bengal to New Delhi took place in Harchandpur area of Rae Bareli district at 6.10 am, Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order, Anand Kumar said.

About 30-35 people received minor injuries, he said.

India: Woman gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 11 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men after being forced to drink liquor at Nasirpur village in the district, police said Thursday.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Sube Singh, the woman was hired by two men to work as a labourer in a field.

She was forced to drink liquor on Wednesday following which she was allegedly raped by these men, he said.

The woman has been sent for a medical examination, police said.

India: Total breakdown of law and order in UP

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI) Alleging a total breakdown in the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the women wing of the CPI(M) Tuesday condemned an attack on activists Pankhudi Pathak and Maria Alam "by Bajrang Dal members" in Aligarh.

The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) also alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Police was misusing its powers.

Man rapes live-in partner's minor daughter

Ghaziabad, Oct 9 (PTI) A man was arrested here for allegedly raping the 10-year-old daughter of a woman he has been in a live-in relationship with, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place Monday night when the minor's mother, a domestic help, had gone out for work, leaving the girl alone, they said.

According to SP (City) Shlok Kumar, the accused, Pooran, is a tent house employee and reached home in an inebriated state after which he raped the girl.

In a meeting with superintendents of police and circle officers, he apprised them of his plans for day off. This, in his view, will not only help the policemen to take physical rest but also to give them a mental relaxation.

Minor girl raped by neighbour

Banda (UP), Oct 8 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Attara area here, police said Monday.

The incident took place Sunday when the girl was on the terrace of her house, SHO, Attara, Dinesh Singh said.

The youth was caught by family members who were alerted by her shrieks, he said.

A probe is on in the matter. The accused has been arrested.

Poor quality food irks CSJMU girls

KANPUR: A large number of girl students demonstrated at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University’s main gate on Saturday protesting over the poor quality of the mess food supplied to the girl’s hostel. They even locked the gate.

It was not the first time that the lizard’s tail was found in the rice served to them. Similar odd things were also noticed during current academic year, said one of the girl representative.

KANPUR: A total of 1805 complaints were received in the month of September this year on Public Grievance  Redressal Portal launched by the state chief minister. The Kanpur police disposed of every case within the time. Thus the city’s police have earned the first place in Uttar Pradesh.
