Raped woman commits suicide after police refuse to file FIR

Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 31 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped by a man, died after she set herself ablaze in a police station here following which three policemen were suspended, an official said today.

The woman's husband Ramvir has alleged that she was upset after police refused to file an FIR in the case and they were exerting pressure on the victim to reach a compromise with the accused, Vinay Kumar.

Yesterday, the woman was rushed to a district hospital, where she succumbed to injuries, the official said.

Missing woman found dead in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 31 (PTI) A 55-year-old woman was found dead in her under-construction house at Bagowali village here last evening, police said today.

Zahida was missing since Wednesday, they said.

The victim was found with her hands tied, SHO Harsharan Sharma said, adding that she might be strangulated to death.

A case was registered against unidentified persons and the body has been sent for post mortem, he added.

20-year-old NRI lynched in UP village on suspicion of being buffalo thief

Bareilly (UP), Aug 30; PTI: A youth who was home from Dubai where he worked as a tailor was lynched in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district on suspicion that he had stolen a buffalo, police said today.

Shahrukh, 20, was beaten to death last night in Bholapur Hadoliya village under the Cantt police station area here.

Four people have been arrested, said Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinandan Singh.

Two Muslim youths thrashed in suspected cow slaughtering incident

Muzaffarnagar (UP), August 21 PTI:  Two Muslim youths were beaten up and paraded by a cow vigilante group under Adarsh Mandi police station in Shamli here, police said today.

Police yesterday registered a case against twenty activists of the cow protection group and also arrested their chief, said circle officer Ashok Kumar. Police are trying to identify the remaining accused persons using a video which was shot when the two youths were being thrashed.

Later police rescued them and booked them under Prevention of Cow Slaughtering Act.

Married woman gang-raped in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 19 (PTI) Police have registered a case against three men for allegedly raping and threatening a 20-year-old married woman here, officials said today.

On August 11, one of the accused, Jitu, called the woman to meet him threatening to upload her sleazy photographs on social media. He also blackmailed to forward the pictures to her in-laws, Station House officer of Allahaganj Police Station Avneesh Kumar Yadav said today.

There, two men - Ramesh Gupta and Sumit - raped her, he said.

Shelter home abuse: UP minister admits laxity by Deoria admin

Lucknow, Aug 7; PTI: Uttar Pradesh minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi today admitted laxity by Deoria administration in shutting down the shelter home from where 24 girls were rescued, saying the district officials were aware about the closure order but allowed the facility to operate for more than a year.

The admission of laxity by the state women and child welfare minister came a day after Union minister Maneka Gandhi said she feared that there could be more cases of sexual abuse of minor girls at shelter homes.

SC to hear on Aug 13 plea on Hapur mob lynching

New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on August 13 the plea of a survivor of the Hapur lynching case, seeking a court-monitored SIT probe into the incident in which one person was killed allegedly on suspicion of being involved in cow slaughter.

The plea also sought cancellation of bail of the accused and transfer of case outside Uttar Pradesh.

Man arrested for raping and killing 5-yr-old girl

Ghaziabad, Aug 7 (PTI) The police have arrested a man who allegedly raped and killed a five-year-old girl last week here, an official said.

The girl's body was found stuffed in a bag on the roof of a house in a locality here, police said.

The incident took place on August 2.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said the girl was missing since Thursday and her father had lodged a missing report at the Khoda police station.

24 girls rescued from shelter home in Deoria in UP

Deoria (UP), Aug 6, 2018; PTI:  Twenty-four girls were rescued from a shelter home here after allegation of their sexual exploitation came to light, police said today.

Girija Tripathi and her husband Mohan Tripathi, who operated the shelter home, and its superintendent Kanchanlata were arrested, they said.

This case comes close on the heels of alleged sexual abuse of young girls at a state-funded shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.

Minor girl abducted, raped in Muzaffarnagar: Police

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 7 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl from New Mandi police station area in Muzaffarnagar city was allegedly abducted and raped by a man for several days, a police official said today.

According to SHO Harsharan Sharma, the accused Vishal abducted the girl on July 15 and took her to another city and raped her there.

He has been booked under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act. The accused has been absconding after the girl's father registered a case in the matter, Sharma said.

A medical examination of the girl is being conducted.
