Charges framed against UP minister in 29-yr-old road rage case

Lucknow, Jul 27 (PTI); A court here framed charges today against Mohsin Raza alias Arshad, a minister in the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh, in connection with a 29-year-old road rage case.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nirbhay Prakash also framed charges against co-accused Akbar and fixed August 4 for the recording of evidence of the prosecution witnesses.

The accused were present in the court at the time of framing of charges.

Word 'Islamia' dropped from government primary schools in Ballia

Ballia, Jul 25 (PTI); The Basic Education Department has started removing the word 'Islamia' prefixed to the names of some government primary schools in the Ballia district here, the officials said today.

The exercise has been launched here days after a similar step was initiated in another eastern UP district of Deoria.

Two held for raping, burning woman alive in UP

PTI; Sambhal (UP), July 16 : Two of the five people accused of burning a woman alive after raping her in Rajpura area of Sambhal district have been arrested, the police said today.

The woman was allegedly burnt alive inside a temple premises after she was raped by the five people in her house on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police R M Bharadwaj said, "The prime accused in the case, Aram Singh and Bhona alias Kunwar Pal, have been arrested. Both of them are being interrogated."

BJP leader charged for rape

Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been charged for raping a teenager whose complains were ignored by police until she tried to set herself alight.

Her father, who kept pursuing her case, was detained by police and severely beaten. He later died from his injuries.

In April, nearly a year after her assault, the girl tried to set herself on fire outside the home of Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

The sense of impunity enjoyed by Sengar, a powerful Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) MLA, and his brother, sparked protests across India demanding justice.

Dalit girl abducted and raped by six men in Muzaffarnagar

PTI; Muzaffarnagar, July 5 : A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped for three days by six youths after being abducted by them last month from Kotwali police station area here, police said today.

A case has been registered yesterday against the six accused, five of them being minor, aged between 14 and 16 years, SHO Anil Kapervan said, adding that the sixth accused is still not identified.

The girl has been sent for medical examination, he said. All the accused are absconding.

CIA named VHP and Bajrang Dal “religious militant organisations”

Based on a report published by Indian Express (Express Web Desk) on June 15, 2018, “the Central Intelligence Agency, in its recent edition of the ‘World Factbook’, has named the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal as “religious militant organisations”.

“The agency categorised them under “political pressure groups”, defined as organisations that are involved in politics or that exert political pressure but whose leaders do not stand for legislative election.”
