India gets 54 tonnes of oxygen from Bahrain

Mangaluru, May 5 (PTI) India on Wednesday received 54 tonnes of oxygen from Bahrain as part of Operation Samudra Setu-II launched by Indian Navy to transport oxygen and associated medical supplies from friendly foreign nations.

The INS Talwar docked this afternoon at the New Mangaluru port with 54 tonnes of oxygen, a Defence official said in a statement.

Bengaluru, May 3 (PTI) In yet another hospital tragedy in the country in the recent days, 24 patients, 23 of them covid-infected, died in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar due to alleged oxygen shortage in the district hospital in the last 24 hours, with the government warning of stringent action against those found guilty.

The government ordered a probe into the matter and appointed senior IAS officer Shivayogi Kalasad as the inquiry officer.

India: Karnataka Minister rules out stringent lockdown for now

Bengaluru, May 1 (PTI): Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Saturday said there is no proposal before the State government to impose a stringent lockdown though he admitted that at least three to four weeks of strict measures were required to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

"There is no proposal before the government to impose a complete lockdown. We want people to strictly follow the regulations," he told reporters in Kalaburagi.

He was reacting to a query on open defiance of lockdown at various places.

India: Drones for sanitizing city, delivering drugs, essentials in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 30 (PTI) To contain the rising number of coronavirus cases here, drones are to be used to sanitize containment zones as well as deliver medicines and essential goods to the affected people.

An initiative of Bengaluru-Central MP P C Mohan and Garuda Aerospace, the drive to sanitize containment zones was kick-started by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday.

Bengaluru, Apr 27 (PTI) Hours before the stringent lockdown to contain COVID-19 in Karnataka came into effect on Tuesday, people flocked to railway stations, central bus terminus and waited in serpentine queues at toll plazas on national highways to board vehicles to reach their homes.

India: Karnataka mulls import of 2 lakh Remdesivir vials

Bengaluru, Apr 23 (PTI) With demand shooting up for Remdesivir following the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, Karnataka is contemplating importing two lakh vials of the anti-viral drug.

The state is also in touch with private manufacturers to supply Remdesivir.

The state is getting 10,000 to 20,000 vials of Remdesivir on a daily basis and the Centre has allocated additional 25,000 vials, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar told reporters here.

India: Karnataka logs biggest single day spike of 25,795 COVID

Bengaluru, Apr 22 (PTI) Karnataka registered another biggest single day spike of 25,795 new cases of COVID-19, and 123 related fatalities on Thursday, taking the total number of infections to 12,47,997 and the death toll to 13,885, the Health department said.

The state had previously reported its biggest single day spike of 23,558 cases on Wednesday.

A total of over 2,41,79,169 samples have been tested so far, of which 1,62,534 were tested today.

Bengaluru Urban accounted for 15,244 new infections.

Repeated adjournments marred the proceedings, pushing it towards a washout, as Congress members prevented any business from taking place by shouting slogans, even as the government did not budge to their demand and remained adamant.

India: Rebel BJP MLA claims Yediyurappa's exit inevitable

Bengaluru, Mar 21 (PTI) Launching yet another tirade against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, rebel BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Sunday said change of guard in the state was 'inevitable' after the elections to five states, as the BJP cannot go for next poll under his leadership.

"This Chief Minister will be changed for sure. If the BJP goes for election with him, then defeat is guaranteed," Yatnal, who has been targetting Yediyurappa on a regular basis, told reporters.

Bengaluru, Mar 20 (PTI) India and France are working on their third joint satellite mission, even as the bilateral space collaboration is entering into multiple domains, including human spaceflight programme, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said.

Sivan, also Secretary in the Department of Space, said many French companies are keen to tap into opportunities thrown up by recent reforms injected into the space sector by the Government.
