India: Prisoners to work at three fuel outlets in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 31 (PTI): In a new initiative, jail inmates in Kerala will man three fuel outlets which have come up adjacent to three prisons in the state.

The scheme, jointly launchedby Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the Jail department at the Thiruvananthapuram and Viyyur central jails and Chemeni open prison, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan through video conferencing on Thursday.

One more outlet will come up at the Kannur central prison.

India: Nine died after consuming sanitizer

Amaravati, Jul 31 (PTI): At least nine persons died after allegedly consuming sanitizer in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, police said.

Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal, who visited Kurichedu mandal headquarters, said the people had been consuming sanitizer for the past few days, mixing it with water and soft drinks.

India: Sajad Gani Lone released from year-long detention without charge

Srinagar, Jul 31 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone was on Friday released from nearly a year-long detention, officials said.

Lone was released days ahead of the first anniversary of the Centre's move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution in August last year, the officials said.

India: SC directs Centre to ensure salaries paid to doctors on time

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka and Tripura are yet to follow directives on timely payment of salaries to healthcare workers engaged in COVID-19, the Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court, which said it cannot be "helpless" in implementing the directions.

The court directed the Centre to issue necessary directions for releasing salaries of doctors and frontline healthcare workers engaged in COVID-19 duty on time.

India: Goat sellers assemble beyond main road in Jajmau

KANPUR: In Jajmau the goats are not selling on the main road this year. People are approaching them on the areas totally far from the wide road.

One such goat market can be found at the Saraiyya lane where the usual vegetable market is arranged twice a week. The name is an impaired form of Ram Rai Ki Sarai.

As the lane is not paved the way is quite rough. Sanitary conditions are also not good. The stink emanating from the drains remains unbearable.

Ayodhya; 30 July 2020 (UMMN): One priest and 14 policemen on duty at Ayodhya's Ram Janam bhoomi complex have tested corona positive where PM Narendra Modi is expected to attend the ceremony along with 50 VIPs on August 5.

Pradeep Das, assistant to the chief priest at the makeshift temple was tested positive. 14 policemen tested positive were either on permanent or roster duty.

India: SC allows filing of plea against environmental clearance to Central Vista project

New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday allowed filing of a fresh plea challenging the June 17 environmental clearance (EC) granted to the ambitious Central Vista project, covering 3-km stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate in Lutyens' Delhi, for constructing a new Parliament House and other government buildings.

A bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheswari and Sanjiv Khanna allowed senior advocate Shyam Divan to file within a week a fresh plea challenging the EC by the Central Vista Committee' to the project.

Yes Bank takes possession of Anil Ambani's group HQ in Mumbai for failure to repay dues

Mumbai, Jul 30 (PTI) Yes Bank has taken over the headquarter of Anil Ambani's group in surburban Santacruz for failure to repay dues worth Rs 2,892 crore.

The private sector lender has also taken possession of two flats in South Mumbai for the non-payment of dues by Reliance Infrastructure, according to a notice published by Yes Bank in a newspaper on Wednesday.

India: Children rejoice every minute with sacrificial goat

KANPUR: Children are enjoying every passing moment of the day with at least one goat present in every moneyed Muslim's house. As an offering of a sacrificial goat is a must for every wealthy person in a Muslim family the presence of goat can be felt by its gloating. 

Despite the school's unit test coming soon after the end of the annual festival, the children are not leaving any chance to move with the goat. One child told his friend: "Come fast, and play with the goat as the time is moving out. There is one more day left in the arrival of Eid-ul-Azha."

India: CBI books 4 Navy officers for generating fake bills to defraud Western Naval Command

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) The CBI has booked four Navy officers and 14 others for allegedly generating fake bills of Rs 6.76 crore for supplying IT hardware to the Western Naval Command, officials said.

Captain Atul Kulkarni, Commanders Mandar Godbole and R P Sharma, and Petty Officer LOG (F&A) Kuldeep Singh Baghel allegedly prepared seven fraudulent bills of Rs 6.76 crore, they said Wednesday.
