India: Couple found murdered in UP

Kanpur (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) A couple was found murdered at their home in Rail Bazar area here on Monday and the police is trying to find out if there was an attempt to sexually assault the woman, an official said.

According to the police, Vishnu Nishad (23) was reportedly battered to death, while his wife Sheela (22) was strangled.

The police suspect that there was an attempt to sexually assault the woman as her clothes were in disarray and the household items scattered all over the place, Superintendent of Police (East) Raj Kumar Agarwal said.

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given nod to the Serum Institute of India (SII) for conducting phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials of the Oxford University developed COVID-19 vaccine candidate in the country

Government officials told PTI that the approval for conducting phase 2 and 3 clinical trials by the SII was granted by DCGI Dr V G Somani late Sunday night after a thorough evaluation based on the recommendations of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19

India: CM Gehlot lacks numbers: BJP

Jaipur, Aug 1 (PTI) Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia on Saturday attacked Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, saying he does not trust his MLAs and lacked the numbers to prove majority in the assembly.

The government is in a five star hotel in Jaisalmer. He has no trust in his ministers and MLAs. Therefore, they are holed up in the hotel amid tight security, Poonia said.

This situation would not have arisen if Gehlot had the numbers, Poonia told reporters at the party office here.

India: Intermittent power cuts bring intense ire in Jajmau

KANPUR: Intermittent power failure has brought sharp resentment among the residents in Jajmau area on the second day of the Eid festival.

Some were resenting at the disruption in the electricity supply because the gadgets would ruin in the process of disturbance in electric currents.

Others were annoyed at non-functioning of the lift due to the power break. Those who have to reach the fourth storey in the building were puffing after scaling so many stairs. They felt no remorse in cursing the department concerned.

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday demanded the release of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, saying India's democracy is damaged when the government illegally detains political leaders.

The Peoples Democratic Party leader has been in detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) since Jammu and Kashmir's special status under Article 370 was revoked in August last year and the state was bifurcated into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Indian HM Amit Shah tests positive for Covid-19

Delhi; 02 Aug 2020 (UMMN):  Indian HM Amit Shah has tested positive for covid-19, and has been hospitalised on doctors advice.

"On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done," Mr Shah's tweet in Hindi roughly said.
