India: Pollution in Ganga: NGT directs UP Jal Nigam

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal has directed UP Jal Nigam to expeditiously complete the work of sewer connectivity to households at Narora town in Bulandshahr district to ensure that no untreated water is discharged into the Ganga.

The green panel slammed the Jal Nigam over non-functional sewage treatment plant at Narora and discharge of untreated sewage in a pond adjacent to the river.

Gadkari approves scheme to make India self-reliant in agarbatti production

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved an employment generation programme proposed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission to make India self-reliant in agarbatti production.

The programme named 'Khadi Agarbatti Aatmanirbhar Mission' aims at creating employment for unemployed and migrant workers in different parts of the country while increasing domestic agarbatti production substantially, the MSME Ministry said.

India: Union IT Minister Prasad self isolates; met Amit Shah on Saturday

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has gone into self isolation, as he had met Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday evening, a source said.

Prasad does not have any symptoms and the self-isolation is purely based on existing protocol, the source added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and is getting admitted to a hospital following the advice of doctors.

India: Fake doctor arrested from Greater Noida hospital

Noida (UP), Aug 2 (PTI) A man practicing as a doctor allegedly on forged documents was arrested from a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida Sunday, police said.

The accused, a resident of Ghaziabad, had got the documents forged in 2017 and was practicing the allopath branch of medicine at the hospital in Bisrakh area, they said.

India: Local BJP leader killed in C'garh village

Korba, Aug 2 (PTI) A local BJP leader and former sarpanch was allegedly killed by his neighbour following an argument in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Shivcharan Lahre (30), was arrested after he surrendered before the police after committing the crime on Saturday night, a local official said.

Jangir-Champa, a neighbouring district of Korba, is located around250 kms away from capital Raipur.

India: Another terrorist related to Kanpur ambush arrested

Kanpur, Aug 2 (PTI) Another alleged criminal was arrested on Sunday in connection with the Kanpur ambush last month, the Uttar Pradesh police said.

Ram Singh Yadav, a resident of Chaubeypur, was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000, Special Task Force Inspector General Amitabh Yash said.

Yadav is being interrogated by a team of senior officers to gain information about those who were behind the ambush, Yash said.

India: UP minister Mahendra Singh tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow, Aug 2 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh minister Mahendra Singh has tested positive for COVID-19, a state government official said on Sunday.

"He tested positive for COVID-19 around two-three days ago," he said.

The news of Singh, the Jal Shakti minister of Uttar Pradesh, testing positive for COVID-19 comes on a day when Kamal Rani Varun, the lone woman member in the state cabinet, succumbed to the disease.

Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh has also tested positive for COVID-19.

India: Karnataka CM Yediyurappa tests positive for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Aug 2 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine," the veteran BJP leader wrote on Twitter.

The chief minister was taken to the Manipal hospital at the Old Airport Road here, sources close to him said.

India: Restrictions imposed in Kashmir Valley, markets shut

Srinagar, Aug 3 (PTI) Restrictions were imposed in the Kashmir valley on Monday, with officials saying that the curbs have been enforced as part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The restrictions come two days ahead of the first anniversary of the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

No movement of people, except essential services and medical emergencies, was being allowed, the officials said.

India: Digvijaya requests PM to defer Ram temple 'bhoomi pujan'

Bhopal,Aug 3 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defer the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday, saying the occasion is inauspicious.

The 'bhoomi pujan' of the Ram temple is scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh and is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
