India: Cong MLA booked in MP for tweeting tampered image of PM

Indore, Aug 9 (PTI) A case was registered against Madhya Pradesh Congress working president and MLA Jitu Patwari for allegedly posting a doctored image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which the ruling BJP claimed hurt the dignity of the PM as well as religious sentiments of Hindus.

In the image uploaded by Patwari, the PM is seen wearing a mask and holding a bowl during the Ram Temple bhoomi pujan ceremony in Ayodhya on August 5.

India: CISF officer asked me if I am an Indian: DMK MP Kanimozhi

Chennai, Aug 9 (PTI) DMK MP Kanimozhi on Sunday said a Central Industrial Security Force officer asked her if she was an Indian, when she asked the woman official to speak in Tamil or English.

"Today at the airport a CISF officer asked me if 'I am an Indian,' when I asked her to speak to me in tamil or English as I did not know Hindi.

I would like to know from when being Indian is equal to knowing Hindi. #hindiimposition," Kanimozhi who is also the DMK's women's wing secretary said on her twitter handle.

India: BJP ridden with factionalism: Gehlot

Jaipur, Aug 9 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday questioned the shifting of BJP MLAs to Gujarat, saying the opposition party was ridden with factionalism.

His comments came in the wake of the BJP herding its 18 MLAs in the past two days to party-ruled Gujarat ahead of the Rajasthan assembly session beginning August 14.

The BJP had claimed that their MLAs were being harassed by police and the administration at the behest of the Congress government in the state.

Indian PM launches Rs 1 lakh crore loan facility under Agri-Infra Fund

New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) Asserting that the government's agri-reforms are focused on empowering small farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a financing facility of Rs 1 lakh crore under the Agri-Infra Fund that will help create post harvest infrastructure in villages and generate jobs.

He also said that the country does not face problems in farm production but in post-harvest losses and therefore efforts are being made to strengthen post harvest infrastructure facilities and ensure better income for farmers.

India: Delhi's education board to be operational by next year: Sisodia

New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) Delhi's own school education board is expected to be operational by next year, however, unlike other states it will not be imposed on government schools, according to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Giving details of plans for setting up the state education board, Sisodia said the board will be in sync with the reforms proposed in the new National Education Policy (NEP) and the focus will be on continuous evaluation and not year-end exams.

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) Prime Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a week-long campaign to free India of garbage and stressed that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been a big support in the fight against coronavirus.

Delivering the inaugural address at the launch of the Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra here, which was also attended by students, Modi urged children to follow social distancing norms and wear masks to guard against coronavirus.

India: Jobless man kills three daughters, himself in MP

Bhind (MP), Aug 8 (PTI) A labourer who had lost his job after coronavirus-induced lockdown killed himself and his three daughters by jumping into a well in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district, the police said on Saturday.

Rajesh Rajak (42) worked in Mumbai but had returned to his village Andhiyari, 40 km from here, after losing his job.

He and his wife frequently fought over their financial situation, said a local police official.

India: 13-year-old girl alleges raped by four men in UP

Bulandshahr, Aug 8 (PTI) A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four men in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, an official said on Saturday.

According to SP City Atul Kumar Srivastava, the girl has alleged that four men entered her house on Friday night, took her to a nearby agricultural field, and then raped her.

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday over the cleanliness campaign, saying he should begin the "satyagraha" by coming clean about Chinese aggression.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister launched a week-long 'Gandagi-Mukt Bharat' (garbage-free India) drive, which would go on till Independence Day to re-enforce the ongoing campaign on cleanliness and sanitation.

India: World has lot riding on India and China: Jaishankar

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) The world has a lot riding on India and China given their size and the impact, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday, suggesting that the future of ties between the two countries would depend on reaching "some kind of equilibrium or understanding".

In an online interaction at a CII summit, Jaishankar said there are "problems" between the two countries which are "well laid out".
