India: godman held for sexually exploiting children denied bail

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 123 (PTI) A self-styled godman arrested for sexually exploiting children in his ashram at Shukartal near here was denied bail on Wednesday by a special court trying cases of crime against children.

Special Judge Sanjiv Kumar Tiwari denied bail to Swami Bhakti Bhushan Maharaj, saying that the charges against the accused are serious and he deserves no bail at this juncture.

Zydus Cadila launches COVID-19 drug Remdesivir in India

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Thursday said it has launched Remdesivir under the brand name Remdac, used to treat patients suffering from severe symptoms of COVID-19, in the Indian market.

Priced at Rs 2,800 per 100 mg vial, Remdac is the most economical Remdesivir brand in India, Zydus Cadila said in a regulatory filing.

The company said the drug will be made available across India through the group's strong distribution chain reaching out to government and private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients.

India: Students don't shirk from absence on online class

KANPUR: As many as 22 students remained absent in the morning class on Wednesday. They were ignorant of the timing as they said.This tendency on the next day furthermore. However, this number could be recorded as the largest in an online class.

India: No meaningful action taken to clean river Ganga tributary: NGT

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Hindon, a tributary of Ganga, is one of the polluted river stretches and no meaningful action has been being taken to clean it, the National Green Tribunal said Tuesday while directing the UP chief secretary to ensure coordination for rejuvenation of the waterbody.

The green panel said instead of shifting of blame from one department to another, steps should be taken for the restoration of water quality of Hindon.

India: Man sentenced to life in Maha for raping minor cousin

Jalna, Aug 11 (PTI) A district court here on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his minor cousin in Jalna district of Maharashtra.

District and sessions court judge Sunil Vedpathak awarded life sentence to the accused, who was charged under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

India: Woman raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Aug 11 (PTI) A woman was allegedly raped by two people, including a village development officer, in Bhadohi's Survaya area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on June 22 evening when a married woman (18) was allegedly called by village development officer Santosh Kumar and Banwari Bind at a school to sign papers for a house under a government scheme, SHO Vijay Pratap Singh said.

In the FIR, which was registered on August 9, the woman alleged that both were in an inebriated state.

India's industrial production declines 16.6 pc in Jun

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) India's industrial production declined by 16.6 per cent in June, on account of disruption in normal business activity following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, the government data showed on Tuesday.

The decline in factory output was widespread across the sectors, including manufacturing, mining, power generation, capital goods and consumer durables, as per the data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had expanded by 1.3 per cent in June 2019.

India: Don't want vendetta politics, says Pilot

Jaipur, Aug 11 (PTI) Congress leader Sachin Pilot here on Tuesday said he has not demanded any post from the party but wants that there is no vendetta politics against the MLAs who stood by him.

Pilot said this as he returned to Jaipur nearly a month after he rebelled against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The former state Congress chief also hoped that the three-member committee constituted by the party high command to look into the issues will start its work soon.
