Algeria condemns Israeli forces’ operations at Al-Aqsa mosque; UN calls for calm

ALGIERS, April 16 (NNN-Xinhua) — Algeria strongly condemned Israeli forces’ operations at the Al-Aqsa mosque, calling for a comprehensive and just solution to the issue.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement the operations are “flagrant violations of all relevant international resolutions and conventions.”

The ministry stressed that Muslims should be allowed to worship at the Al-Aqsa mosque and granted full protection.

Algeria to increase natural gas exports to Italy by 50%

11 April 2022; MEMO: Algeria intends to increase its natural gas exports to Italy by 50 per cent as part of a new deal expected to be signed today, Bloomberg reported.

According to the agency, the agreement is "non-public" and stipulates that "Algeria will increase its exports to Italy by 9 to 10 billion cubic meters per year by the end of 2022."

Italy received about 21 billion cubic meters of gas from Algeria in 2021, compared to about 29 billion cubic meters from Russia.

Algeria, Turkey hold talks to increase energy cooperation

25 March 2022; MEMO: Algerian Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, met with the President of the Turkish Kalyon Enerji company, Mortada Atta, yesterday discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of energy.

This came during a meeting in Algiers, in the presence of the Turkish Ambassador Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas, according to a statement by the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines.

Algeria recalls Spain envoy over Western Sahara policy change

ALGIERS, March 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Algeria has recalled its ambassador from Madrid in protest at Spain’s decision to back a Moroccan autonomy plan for the disputed former Spanish colony of Western Sahara.

Morocco sees Western Sahara, with rich phosphate resources and access to lucrative Atlantic fishing waters, as an integral part of its territory.

Algeria recalls ambassador to Spain for consultations

ALGIERS, March 19 (Reuters) - Algeria has summoned its ambassador to Spain back for consultations over Madrid's recent comments on Western Sahara, the foreign affairs ministry said on Saturday.

"The Algerian authorities were very surprised by the surprising statements of the highest authorities in Spain on the issue of Western Sahara," it said.

Algeria is a key gas supplier to Spain and Italy.
