Algeria wins Arab Cup final over neighbours Tunisia

18 Dec 2021; MEMO: Extra-time goals by substitute Amr Sayoud and Yacine Brahimi gave Algeria a 2-0 win over neighbours Tunisia in the Arab Cup final at the Al Bayt Stadium on Saturday, reports Reuters.

It added the Arab crown to the Africa Cup of Nations title Algeria won in 2019, and will defend in Cameroon next month.

The 31-year-old Sayoud made his international debut in Algeria's opening game of the tournament but did not play again until coming on just past the hour mark in the final.

Algeria: Morocco, Israel working together to destablise us

15 Dec 2021; MEMO: Morocco's ruling party is conspiring with Israel against Algeria's security and stability, the secretary-general of the Algerian National Liberation Front warned yesterday.

Abu Al-Fadl Baadji told reporters that the Makhzen alliance and the Zionist entity aim to "influence Algeria's principled stances in support of just global causes, especially the Palestinian and Saharan issues."

Palestine's Abbas visits Algeria to discuss regional, int'l issues

ALGIERS, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Algeria on Sunday for a three-day visit at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, state media reported.

Abbas was greeted by Tebboune and a number of top Algerian government officials when he arrived at Algiers' International Airport, according to the APS news agency.

The two presidents will discuss regional and international issues of common interest, in addition to the developments in Palestine.

Algeria to reform industry sector for economic recovery: president

ALGIERS, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Saturday that Algeria will launch new reforms to boost the industry sector for economic recovery.

"It is time to establish an industry sector based on coherent and strong foundations, which serves the national interests, and will become one of the pillars of comprehensive and sustained national development," Tebboune said at the opening ceremony of the National Conference on Industry Recovery in the capital Algiers.

'Morocco-Israel defence deal a dirty military alliance': Algeria FM

04 Dec 2021; MEMO: Algeria's Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra on Friday described the Moroccan-Israeli defence deal as a "dirty military alliance," Quds Press reported.

Lamamra delivered his remarks during the 8th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa on Thursday in Oran, Algeria.

"Every step taken by the Moroccan authorities related to this dirty alliance distances it more from Algeria and its people," he asserted.

Algeria's president hints at Syria's return to Arab League

27 Nov 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has hinted at the possibility of Syria's return to the Arab League during the next Arab summit in March, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Syria is supposed to be present," Tebboune told the state television when asked if the next Arab summit in Algeria will see Syria's return to the Arab League.

He explained that the summit needs to be inclusive and the Arab world unified.

Algerians hold local elections amid anger over rising prices

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Algerians are voting Saturday to elect mayors and regional leaders amid widespread worry and frustration over rising prices for basic goods, housing and health care.

The government is hoping the election confirms support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who won election after his predecessor was ousted in 2019 by pro-democracy protests backed by the army chief. But many Algerians see Tebboune’s leadership as only a cosmetic change and are deeply disillusioned by politics.

'Normalisation with Israel irresponsible': Algeria FM

13 Nov 2021; MEMO: Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra has declared that the normalisation of ties with the Israeli occupation state is an "irresponsible" decision, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Friday.

In an interview with a local TV channel, Lamamra affirmed that the next Arab League summit slated to be held in Algeria would be dealing with Arab unity.

Algeria FM says time has come for Syria to return to Arab League

11 Nov 2021; MEMO: Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, said yesterday that the time has come for Syria to return to the Arab League and called for non-intervention in its domestic affairs.

"Algeria stresses that time has come for Syria's return to the Arab League without any external interference in its domestic affairs", the Algerian Ennahar newspaper quoted Lamamra as saying, adding: "We are looking forward to the reunion."
