Algeria's President Tebboune pardons over 100 detained activists ahead of Eid

15 July 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Wednesday pardoned more than 100 activists detained for participating in anti-government Hirak Movement protests.

The Algerian presidency announced in a statement: "On the occasion of Eid al-Adha (next Tuesday), the president of the republic has decided to pardon 30 detainees with a final verdict and 71 others who did not receive a sentence due to their activities during the protests by the Hirak Movement."

'We could have intervened in Morocco twice, but we did not': Algeria army

14 July 2021; MEMO: The Algerian military accused Morocco of trying to destablise the country, considering the move as a continuation of an old Moroccan policy based on "grudge and hatred."

An editorial published by the Algerian magazine El Djeich this week stated that "a neighbouring country that moves and works against the interests of Algeria has not hidden its hatred and resentment for our country, not only today, but for centuries."

05 July 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stressed on Sunday that he will not give up on the "memory file" related to the crimes committed by France during the colonial era (1830-1962), Anadolu has reported. Tebboune made this clear in a message to the Algerian people on the 59th anniversary of Algeria's independence from France published on Facebook.

Algeria to seal $7bn arms deal with Russia

Algeria: largest Islamic party refuses to join new government

30 June 2021; MEMO: The largest Islamist party in Algeria, the Movement for Society of Peace (MSP), announced on Tuesday that it will not take part in the government being formed after the recent legislative election. The announcement was made by MSP leader Abdel Razzaq Makri after an emergency meeting of the movement's Shura (Consultative) Council, to consider an offer from the presidency to participate in the next government.

13 June 2021; MEMO: Only 30% of voters turned out in Algeria's parliamentary elections on Saturday, according to the country's election commission, reports Anadolu Agency.

"Voter turnout in the polls reached 30.2%," Mohamed Chorfi, chairman of the National Independent Election Authority, told state television.
