04 June 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described his country's relations with Turkey as "excellent," highlighting Ankara's investment in the region without any political ambitions, Anadolu Agency reports.

In an interview with the French weekly Le Point published on Wednesday, Tebboune said Turkey invested around $5 billion in Algeria "without any political demands in return."

04 June 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is not considering running for a second term, he told a French magazine in an interview, adding that his role is "to help the country stand up again, rebuild state institutions and ensure that the republic belongs to everyone."

Speaking to Le Point, Tebboune added that should Islamist parties win the elections, then this is not an issue "as long as it's in line with the laws of the Republic".

20 May 2021; MEMO: Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad said yesterday that his country has refused to borrow money from the IMF in order not to undermine its sovereignty, Anadolu reported.

The PM said that his government decided to maintain financial balances through certain measures in light of the fight against COVID-19, but absolutely refused to turn to the IMF.

17 May 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian ambassador to Algeria said on Sunday that de-escalation in the occupied territories must have a price to be paid by the Israeli occupation authorities. Most notably, insisted Amin Maqboul, this would be the suspension of settlement activities in the Palestinian territories.

08 May 2021; MEMO: For the first time on Saturday, Algeria will celebrate the National Day of Memory, which coincides with the 76th anniversary of the massacres of 8 May, 1945, when the French colonial forces suppressed a demonstration calling for the independence of Algeria, killing thousands of protesters east of the country.

06 Apr 2021; MEMO: France must compensate the victims of landmines planted by its forces during the colonial era, head of the Algerian National Human Rights Council (CNHD), Bouzid Lazhari, has said, adding that French authorities laid more than nine million mines along Algeria's eastern and western borders, which caused permanent disabilities for 7,300 Algerians.

07 Apr 2021; MEMO: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has called on France to return archives dating back to the Ottoman era, smuggled out of the country during the French colonial era from 1830 to 1962, Anadolu reported.

"The archive is an integral part of our memory (…) what France smuggled of the Ottoman archives it found in Algeria should be returned to us," Tebboune said in a press conference.

03 Apr 2021; MEMO: The military court in the city of Blida, north of Algeria, has sentenced former Director-General of Internal Security General Wassini Bouazza to 16 years in prison.

Bouazza, who was convicted on Wednesday on the last day of a three-day trial, has been in prison since April 2020 in relation to a number of cases.

ALGIERS, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum on Tuesday met with UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis over the developments of the war-torn country after the swearing-in of a new government.

Boukadoum said on his official Twitter account that he had "constructive" talks with the UN envoy and they "hailed the recent positive steps" by Libya to "reunite its ranks."

They reaffirmed their determination to support the peace and reconciliation process in Libya, the Algerian top diplomat noted.

ALGIERS, Mar 15 (NNN-APS) – Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reiterated his country’s readiness to help Mali overcome crisis and restore peace and reconciliation.

“We are at the disposal of our brothers in Mali, to help them in what they assume is suitable to maintain serenity, ahead of the forthcoming elections, according to the plan they have already set,” Tebboune told a joint press conference, following talks with visiting Malian President, Bah N’Daw.
