Algeria MP proposes anti-normalisation bill

29 Dec 2020; MEMO: Algerian MP Amira Selim has proposed a bill which prohibits the promotion of normalising ties with the Israeli occupation on mass media and alternative media, Safa news agency reported yesterday.

In an exclusive interview with Safa, the MP said that this bill reflects the vision of the Algerian institutions regarding the Palestinian cause as they reject all forms of normalisation.

24 Dec 2020; MEMO: Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly Slimane Chenine reaffirmed his country's firm position on the Western Sahara issue and "the people's right to determine their fate."

Chenine pointed out: "The right to self-determination is guaranteed in the Charter of the United Nations and other human rights accords."

Algerian President says to "return home soon" from COVID-19 recovery in Germany

ALGIERS, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced on Sunday that he "will soon return home" from his recovery process in Germany following contracting COVID-19 in October.

The announcement came in a five-minute video Tebboune posted on his official Twitter account, the first appearance of the Algerian President in more than two months.

Tebboune said he should return home after three weeks at most.

"Despite illness and being away from home, I have been following closely what's going on in the country," he said.

Algerian airline resumes domestic flights after shutdown for over 8 months

ALGIERS, Dec 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — Algeria’s flag carrier airline Air Algeria Sunday resumed domestic flights after more than eight months of shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the official APS news agency reported.

A total of 23 planes of the national airline took off from Algiers airport to various destinations on Sunday, according to APS.

It added that the General Directorate for National Security has taken a series of security and preventive measures for the resumption of domestic flights.

Algeria resumes domestic flights

07 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Algerian authorities yesterday resumed domestic flights after they were suspended months ago due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Sources told local media that the government had not resumed international flights, adding that the domestic flights were resumed amid "strict implementation of health measures to prevent the spread of the virus."

Algeria's president leaves German hospital, back home in 'coming days'

30 Nov 2020; MEMO:  Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has left a German hospital where he was flown for treatment more than a month ago, and he will return home "in the coming days," the presidency said on Monday.

Tebboune, 75, who has tested positive for COVID-19, will continue "the rest of the recovery period" in Germany, it said in a statement.

28 Nov 2020; MEMO: Acting Speaker of the Algerian National Assembly Salah Goudjil, who is the second most powerful man in the country, criticised and questioned the motives behind the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s decision to open a consulate in the Laayoune area, Western Sahara. Goudjil also raised questions about the link between this move and the Emirates' normalisation plan.
