ORAN, Algeria, Aug 27 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron visited a celebrated record shop in Algeria on Saturday, an apparent overture to young Algerians during a trip aimed at easing what he called the "painful" history shared by the two countries.

The trauma of French colonial rule in Algeria and the bitter independence war that ended it in 1962 has haunted relations between the two countries for decades and played into a diplomatic dispute that erupted last year.

Algeria's wildfires death toll rises to 37 - Ennahar TV

Aug 18 (Reuters) - The death toll from wildfires in Algeria has risen to 37, the local Ennahar TV reported on Thursday, citing the Algerian Civil Protection Directorate.

The number of injured also increased to 183 people, the report added.

The wildfires are burning in mountainous areas and the victims were from the provinces of Al Taref, and Setif, in the eastern part of the arid and semi-arid country, Africa's largest.

Algeria, Niger, Nigeria ink deal to build trans-Saharan gas pipeline

ALGIERS, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Algeria, Niger and Nigeria signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of a gas pipeline across the Sahara Desert that will supply Europe with additional gas, said the Algerian energy minister.

The signing ceremony was held in Algiers, capital of Algeria, in the presence of the energy ministers of the three African countries, and came in the wake of a trilateral meeting on the Trans-Saharan Gas-Pipeline (TSGP).

Italian PM visits Algeria on energy cooperation

ALGIERS, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi arrived in Algeria on Monday for a one-day visit, during which he is expected to finalize deals to increase Algeria's natural gas supply to Italy to ease Italy's dependence on Russian gas supply.

Leaders of Palestinian Authority, Hamas meet in Algeria

ALGIERS/RAMALLAH, July 6 (NNN-Xinhua) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with the politburo chief of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Ismail Haniyeh in Algeria on Tuesday.

A photo released by the Palestinian presidency showed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sitting between Abbas and Haniyeh in a meeting room with Algeria’s green-and-white national flag in the background.

The meeting was broadcast on the Algerian TV channel TV3, which showed the three leaders holding their hands.
