India: Dalit girl raped in UP's Chitrakoot village

Banda (UP) Apr 30 (PTI) A Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man in a village in Chitrakoot district, police said on Thursday.

The 16-year-old girl has alleged that the man had raped her a month back after giving her some intoxicants and had been blackmailing and raping her since then, SP, Chitrakoot, Ankit Mittal, said on Thursday.

The girl visited the police station with her elder brother on Wednesday after which an FIR was lodged and the youth arrested.

The girl has been sent for medical examination, the SP added.

Urgent Arab League urgent meeting to discuss Israel plan to annex West Bank

28 April 2020; MEMO: The Arab League will on Thursday hold an urgent virtual meeting to discuss Israeli plans to annex illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, Wafa News Agency reported yesterday.

In a statement, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, said that the meeting will discuss various ways of providing political, legal and financial support to the Palestinian leadership to confront the Israeli plans.

Israel threatens Al-Aqsa Mosque imam

28 April 2020; MEMO: Israeli intelligence services threatened the Preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, after raiding his house in occupied East Jerusalem.

The threat came after Sheikh Sabri said that he will reopen Al-Aqsa Mosque’s doors if occupation forces allowed settlers to storm the Muslim site.

Sheikh Sabri told Anadolu Agency: “Israeli intelligence forces came to my house and threatened me saying that they will hold me responsible for any tension in Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

India: Arrests in relation to Delhi riots be made in accordance with SC guidelines: HC

New Delhi, Apr 28 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has directed that arrests in connection with the recent riots in the national capital, shall be done in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines related to arrest and detention.

The direction was issued by a bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh which also issued notice to the Centre, Delhi government and police seeking their stand on a plea alleging that arrests in connection with the riots were being made during the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic.

Srinagar, April 27 (UMM): Three Kashmiri separatist were killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in lower Munda in Qazigund area of Kulgam district of Indian administered Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.

Egypt releases over 4,000 prisoners

27 April 2020; MEMO: Egypt has released over 4,000 prisoners on Sinai Liberation Day suggesting it has bowed to pressure to ease overcrowding in case COVID-19 hits prisons.

On Saturday the state-run media announced that 3,778 prisoners had been pardoned and 233 conditionally released, a far higher figure than usual. On the same day last year, 67 were pardoned.
