India: Ten Indonesian Tablighis arrested in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 27 (PTI) Ten Indonesians, including six women- who all are members of the Tablighi Jamaat and had attended the religious meet at the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi in March- have been arrested by the Mumbai Police under various sections of the IPC on completion of their quarantine period, an official said on Monday.

These ten members were part of a group of 12 Tablighis from Indonesia who were staying at an apartment in Bandra (west) since March 29 after they had returned from Delhi, he said.

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) This institution is not hostage of government, the Supreme Court said on Monday as it sought reply from the Centre on a plea seeking direction to authorities to allow migrant workers across the country to return home after conducting coronavirus tests.

The top court's remark came after advocate Prashant Bhushan told the court that the government's view is being blindly considered without verifying it, while fundamental rights of people especially migrant workers are not being enforced.

Mayawati said it would have been better if the governments made proper arrangements for the millions of people, who are suffering due to the lockdown over the novel coronavirus pandemic, and send them safely to their houses.

Hyderabad, Apr 26 (PTI) A prolonged lockdown may possibly push million of Indians into the "margins of subsistence", former RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao said on Sunday while expecting a 'V' curved recovery once the COVID-19 crisis ends and the turnaround in India to be faster than some economies.

India: No public gatherings in UP till June 30: Adityanath

Lucknow, Apr 25 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh government will not allow any public gathering till June 30, well beyond the end of the current nationwide lockdown, officials said on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has told officials that the situation will be reviewed after June 30.

India: 21 foreigners who had attended Tablighi meet arrested

Thane, Apr 23 (PTI) The crime branch of Thane police on Thursday arrested 25 persons including 21 foreign nationals who had allegedly attended a gathering of the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi in March.

They were arrested after their quarantine period was over. A court later granted them bail, an official said.

India: UP farmhouse of Tablighi Jamaat leader raided

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) The Delhi Police's Crime Branch has raided a farmhouse of Tablighi Jamaat leader Maulana Saad Kandhavli, who was booked for organising a religious congregation here in violation of COVID-19 lockdown orders, officials said on Thursday.

The raid was carried out at Kandhavli's farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, they said.

India: Teenage girl raped by neighbour in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Apr 24 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the Rasra area here, police said on Friday.

The 16-year-old girl was raped by the neighbour on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Devendra Nath said.

On the complaint of the girl, an FIR was registered against the accused on Thursday and subsequently he was arrested, Nath said.

A probe into the matter is on, he said.
