India: Man held for raping six-year-old girl in Damoh

Damoh/Bhopal, Apr 24 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl at a village in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, police said on Friday.

The police followed several leads to arrest the man involved in the crime late on Thursday, Damoh district's superintendent of police (SP) Hemant Chouhan said.

Israel halts police phone tracking over privacy concerns

JERUSALEM, April 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) —The use by Israel’s police of mobile-phone location data to enforce quarantine has been halted because of privacy concerns.

The government had approved the use of such data for a limited time, to make sure those ordered to self-isolate were doing so.

But now an oversight group in Israel’s parliament blocked an attempt to extend the emergency measures past this week.

A committee member said the harm done to privacy outweighed the benefits.

23 April 2020; MEMO: The US embassy in Cairo has written a press statement calling on Beijing to release people detained unjustly.

The statement asks that human rights lawyer Wang Quanchang be allowed to move freely including joining his family in Beijing now that he has been released from unfair detention.

Wang was detained as part of a campaign against over 300 lawyers and human rights activists in July 2015.

I will not vote in favour of annexation plan: Israel Labor Party

23 April 2020; MEMO: Leader of Israel’s Labor Party, Amir Peretz, yesterday declared that his party would not vote in favour of the plan to annex the occupied West Bank, the Israel Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) reported.

He also said that he would exert as much effort as he can in order to undermine this plan or any other unilateral measure.

Peretz’s remarks came in response to criticism following his party’s decision to join a coalition government with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

India: Minor Dalit girl raped in UP's Amethi

Amethi, Apr 22 (PTI) A minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped here, police said on Wednesday.

Circle Officer, Amethi, Piyush Kant Rai on Wednesday said, "In the police complaint lodged by the father of the 11-year-old girl, he said his daughter was raped on April 19 by a person hailing from Shitalaganj. A case under various sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and SC/ST Act has been registered at Sangrampur police station".

The girl has been sent for medical examination, Rai said, and added that the accused will be arrested soon.

India: Man arrested in Maha for refusing delivery from a Muslim

Thane, Apr 22 (PTI) A resident of Kashimira locality in the district has been arrested for allegedly refusing to take delivery from a Muslim person.

Gajanan Chaturvedi (51) was booked under IPC section 295(A) (malicious act outraging religious feelings) on Tuesday night, a police official said.

India: IWPC expresses shock over gov action against 3 journalists in J&K

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) The Indian Women's Press Corps on Wednesday expressed shock over three journalists being booked by law enforcement authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that the action was aimed at "striking fear in the hearts of journalists".

The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has been used against freelance photographer Masarat Zahra, a fellow woman journalist. The act was meant to deal with hardened terrorists, the IWPC said in a statement.

India: Six-year-old girl raped in MP, her eyes damaged by accused

Damoh (MP), Apr 23 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh by an unidentified person, who also damaged her eyes, a police official said on Thursday.

The incident took place at a village in Jabera tehsil on Wednesday evening when the minor was playing outside her house with other children, police said.
