Nashik; 15 May 2020 (UMM): Wife of a migrant worker has given birth on her way home then continued walking 160 Km with her newborn baby.

Woman was walking with her husband and their four other children from the city of Nashik to the town of Satna when her journey was interrupted due to labour pain.

India: HC seeks reply on petition alleging poor condition of quarantine centres in Bihar

Patna, May 14 (PTI) The Patna High Court has sought a reply from the Bihar government on a petition alleging poor condition of quarantine centres in the state where migrant workers have been mandated to stay for three weeks upon their return from other parts of the country.

A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Karol on Wednesday asked the state's secretary for Disaster Management Department to file an affidavit in response to the petition filed by Rajiv Ranjan Pandey, a resident of Saran district.

India: Migrant workers block highway in Kutch, pelt stones

Gandhidham, May 13 (PTI) Desperate to travel to their home states amidst the coronavirus-induced lockdown, hundreds of migrant workers on Wednesday blocked a main highway passing through Gandhidham town in Gujarat's Kutch district and pelted some vehicles with stones, an official said.

These migrants claimed that though they had finished the necessary registration process but there was no response from the administration about their repatriation.

India: Detention of JKPM Leader Shah Faesal extended by 3 months under PSA

Srinagar, May 13 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration has extended detention of former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA) by three months, official said on Wednesday.

Faesal, who has been under detention after scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir's special status, was booked under the PSA in February this year.

India: Bus runs over six migrant workers in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, May 14 (PTI) Six migrant workers, who were walking to their homes in Bihar from Punjab, were killed and five others seriously injured when a speeding bus ran over them on the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday between Ghalauli check-post and Rohana Toll Plaza, about 20 km from here, Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said.

The bus driver has been arrested, the SSP said.

Death Toll Of Two Deadly Attacks In Afghanistan Rises

KABUL, May 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The number of people affected in two deadly terrorist attacks in Afghanistan on Tuesday has risen, reported local media Tolo News TV on Wednesday.

In one attack, 24 civilians were killed and 16 others injured, after three terrorists attacked a maternal hospital in western part of the country’s capital Kabul, said the report, quoting a Public Health Ministry source.

Earlier reports suggested that 14 civilians were killed and 15 others injured.

India: Woman commits suicide for dowry demands in UP's Etah

Etah (UP), May 12 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman and her father-in-law allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Akbarpur village in Malawan area, they said.

Priyanka allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Monday night, after which her father-in-law Phool Singh (60) also hanged himself from a tree outside the village, the police said.

India: Man dies as pvt hospital in Kolkata denies admission

Kolkata, May 13 (PTI) A 76-year-old man from Bihar who had multiple age-related ailments died due to alleged negligence of a private hospital in Kolkata that denied admission suspecting him to be positive for COVID-19, his family members said on Wednesday.

Shahid Ahmad Yahya, a resident of Darbhanga, was brought to Kolkata on May 9 for admission to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals on the recommendation of the doctor who used to treat him, his son-in-law Mokhtar Alam told PTI.
