Turkey on Nakba: 'Jerusalem is our red line'

17 May 2020; MEMO: The Turkish presidential spokesman today voiced solidarity with Palestinian people as they observed the 72nd anniversary of the Day of Nakba, reported by Anadolu Agency.

In a statement marking the day, Ibrahim Kalin said Nakba, which defines the “great catastrophe” that the Palestinian nation was exposed to, signifies the 72-year-long occupation, unlawfulness, oppression and injustice.

A Kashmiri separatist killed by Indian security forces in Doda district of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 17 (UMM): A Kashmiri separatist and an army soldier were killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in a village in Doda district of Indian administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

India: Eight home-bound migrants killed in road accidents in MP

Bhopal, May 16 (PTI) Eight migrants including four women were killed in three separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, police said.

At least 29 others were injured in these accidents which took place in Sagar, Guna and Barwani districts, police said.

Six persons -- four women and two men -- were killed in an accident near Sagar, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Sanghi.

Rwandan Genocide Suspect Arrested In France

PARIS, May 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) – After 26 years on the run, Felicien Kabuga, alleged to have been a leading figure in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, has been arrested in Paris, France’s public prosecutor’s office and the police announced on Saturday.

Kabuga, now aged 84, once one of Rwanda’s richest men and accused of financing the genocide, has been living under a false identity in a flat, in Asnieres-Sur-Seine on Paris suburbs, said the statement.

Jordan warns Israel of massive conflict over annexation

16 May 2020; MEMO: Jordanian king on Friday warned that if Israel annexes the West Bank, it would lead to a “massive conflict” with Jordan, Anadolu Agency reports.

“If Israel really annexes the West Bank in July, it would lead to a massive conflict with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” King Abdullah II said in an interview with Der Spiegel.

“Leaders who advocate a one-state solution do not understand what that would mean,” he said, adding that there would be more chaos and extremism in the region.

India: Stop acting like money lender, give cash rather than credit: Rahul

New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the Centre should stop acting like a 'sahukar' (money lender) for its children, and demanded that cash assistance be given to the poor and vulnerable sections, who are in dire need of money now, than credit.

India: 64 foreign Tablighis arrested in Bhopal

Bhopal, May 16 (PTI) Over 60 foreign nationals, who are members of Tablighi Jamaat, have been arrested by police here for participating in various religious programmes of the organisation in violation of Foreigners Act and under the Indian Penal Code, a senior officer said on Saturday.

Earlier, seven cases were registered against them under visa norms at various police stations in Bhopal.

Trump sacked State Department Inspector General Steve Linick late on Friday in his latest abrupt dismissal of an official tasked with monitoring wrongdoing inside a government agency.

EU ‘to rally against Israel’s West Bank annexation proposal’

BRUSSELS/JERUSALEM, May 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The EU has indicated that it will try to stop Israel’s proposed annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank.

Foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the bloc would use its diplomatic clout to prevent unilateral action.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the new unity government could press ahead with annexing some West Bank settlements and the Jordan Valley as early as in July.

The Palestinians bitterly oppose the idea.
