Ashrawi condemns Israel’s targeting of cultural and heritage sites

Israel soldiers destroy Palestinian coronavirus testing centre

20 July 2020; MEMO: Israeli soldiers demolished a Palestinian security checkpoint used to test for coronavirus in the occupied West Bank, according to Wafa news agency.

The checkpoint was set up by Palestinian security forces at the entrance to the occupied West Bank city of Jenin to prevent the spread of the virus.

India: Dalit youth dies after being "beaten up" by police

Amaravati, Jul 22 (PTI): A Dalit youth died in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh after the local police allegedly beat him up, but District Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal said on Wednesday that he was drunk and picked up an altercation with a constable.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took serious note of the incident and ordered payment of Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the victims family, a release here said.

India: Contempt proceedings: SC issues notices to activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday issued notices to Attorney General K K Venugopal and advocate Prashant Bhushan on the contempt proceedings it has initiated against the activist-lawyer for his alleged derogatory tweets against the judiciary.

The apex court directed that Twitter INC be made a party, instead of Twitter India, to the contempt proceedings it has initiated suo motu (on its own) and asked the US-based firm to file a response in the matter.

India: Journalist shot at by assailants dies in UP

Ghaziabad (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) Ghaziabad-based journalist Vikram Joshi, who was shot in the head by some assailants, succumbed to injuries early Wednesday, his family said.

Joshi had lodged a complaint with the police alleging harassment of his niece on July 16 and was shot at around 10.30 pm on Monday near his home in Vijay Nagar area, according to officials.

India: Cong won't be scared by 'raid raj': Surjewala

Jaipur, Jul 22 (PTI) The Centre has created a 'raid raj' but the Congress won't be scared, the party's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Wednesday after the Enforcement Directorate conducted searches at the home of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's brother.

The Congress leader also reacted to the killing of a journalist in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and said there was 'gunda raj' and 'jungle raj' in the state.

Pakistan: Ministers hold consultation over highlighting IOJK situation on Aug 5

ISLAMABAD, Jul 21 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood and Planning Minister Asad Umar met here Tuesday and held in-depth consultations on highlighting the ongoing worst human rights violations in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK).

The ministers discussed importance of drawing the world’s attention towards the curfew imposed in IOJK since last August 5 – the day India revoked special status of Kashmir.

The ministers also exchanged views on the current situation of coronavirus in the country.

Egypt jails 42 protesters whose homes were demolished

21 July 2020; MEMO: Egyptian authorities have imprisoned 42 protesters who were demonstrating against the government’s decision to demolish their homes.

On Friday, as residents of Maawa Al-Sayadeen took to the streets, security forces fired tear gas at them and attacked them with batons, killing a four-day-old girl.
