Myanmar forces kill 82 in single day in city: Reports

YANGON (AP) — At least 82 people were killed in one day in a crackdown by Myanmar security forces on pro-democracy protesters, according to reports Saturday from independent local media and an organization that keeps track of casualties since the February coup.

Friday’s death toll in Bago was the biggest one-day total for a single city since March 14, when just over 100 people were killed in Yangon, the country’s biggest city. Bago is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Yangon. The Associated Press is unable to independently verify the number of deaths.

Egypt sentences Muslim Brotherhood acting leader to life

09 Apr 2021; MEMO: An Egyptian court yesterday sentenced Mahmoud Ezzat, the Muslim Brotherhood's acting general guide, to life in prison, local media reported.

State-owned Al-Ahram newspaper said the Second Terrorism Circuit court sentenced Ezzat to life in prison on charges of incitment to kill, possession of weapons and terrorising people.

Amnesty urges US' Biden to call out human rights abuses in Egypt

Amnesty International's MENA advocacy director has called on US President Joe Biden to denounce human rights in Egypt and demand change.

"Tens of thousands of people have been swept up and detained in Egypt, and Amnesty International has called it the world's largest open-air prison," Philippe Nassif told Today News Africa.

Israel: Settlers sieze 15 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem's Silwan

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: Jewish settlers siezed 15 Palestinian houses in the occupied East Jerusalem district of Silwan, the Palestinian Information Centre quoted Israel's Channel 7 reporting.

According to the channel, the settlers placed Israeli flags on 15 houses in Silwan after the Ateret Cohanim organisation seized them and handed them to settler families.

Palestinians mourn Jerusalemite killed by Israel forces

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: The funeral of 42-year-old Jerusalemite Osama Siddiq Mansour was held in the occupied village of Biddu village on Tuesday.

Mansour was killed after Israeli occupation forces opened fire at his car in the early hours of Tuesday morning, his wife was injured in the incident. The couple were on their way home.

Osama Mansour, 42, and his wife Sumayya, 35, were on their way home around 2:30am when they were stopped at a flying checkpoint.

India: CRPF harassing voters in Bengal at Shah's behest: Mamata

Baneswar (WB), Apr 7 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the CRPF personnel are harassing voters in the state at the behest of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a rally here in Cooch Behar district, she accused personnel of the central force of molesting women and beating people during the ongoing assembly elections.

"They are obstructing electors to cast their votes.
