Palestine: PA urges action against Israel settlements

06 Apr 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian Authority (PA) yesterday urged the international community to take immediate action against Israel's settlement expansion and "ethnic cleansing".

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the PA said: "Israeli settlement practices are part of official Israeli plans to evacuate the Palestinian territories from their original residents and make it a deep background for the strategic Israeli colonial project."

Minorities in Myanmar borderlands face fresh fear since coup

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Before each rainy season Lu Lu Aung and other farmers living in a camp for internally displaced people in Myanmar’s far northern Kachin state would return to the village they fled and plant crops that would help keep them fed for the coming year.

But this year in the wake of February’s military coup, with the rains not far off, the farmers rarely step out of their makeshift homes and don’t dare leave their camp. They say it is simply too dangerous to risk running into soldiers from Myanmar’s army or their aligned militias.

Normalisation with Israel to 'bring tremendous benefits to the region': Saudi FM

03 Apr 2021; MEMO: Normalising ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel would "bring tremendous benefits to the region as a whole," Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud announced on Thursday.

"It [normalisation] would be extremely helpful economically, socially and from a security perspective," he expressed in the interview with CNN.

59 migrants rescued in Turkey

03 Apr 2021; MEMO: Turkish security teams today rescued at least 59 migrants in the north-western and southwestern provinces, according to security sources, Anadolu Agency reports.

The Turkish Coast Guard rescued at least 54 migrants off the coast of Ayvacik in Canakkale, said a source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

India: Farmers hold protest against Khattar in Haryana's Rohtak

Chandigarh, Apr 3 (PTI) Farmers on Saturday held a protest against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Rohtak district.

After they came to know about the CM's visit, farmers including women gathered outside a private university where Khattar's chopper was to land.

Khattar was to attend a condolence meet in memory of Rohtak MP Arvind Sharma's father.

Heavy police security arrangements were made outside the university with barricades put up to stop protesters, said officials.

USA: Kneeling on Floyd’s neck ‘totally unnecessary’: Lieutenant

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kneeling on George Floyd ’s neck while he was handcuffed and lying on his stomach was top-tier, deadly force and “totally unnecessary,” the head of the Minneapolis Police Department’s homicide division testified Friday.

“If your knee is on a person’s neck, that can kill him,” said Lt. Richard Zimmerman, adding that when a person is handcuffed behind their back, “your muscles are pulling back ... and if you’re laying on your chest, that’s constricting your breathing even more.”

Turkey coast guard rescues 13 asylum seekers

01 Apr 2021; MEMO: The Turkish Coast Guard rescued 13 asylum seekers stranded on a rubber boat off the country's southwestern coast on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reports.

According to the Coast Guard Command, the group of asylum seekers asked for help when their boat drifted as its engine broke down off the coast of Marmaris district in Mugla province.

Later, the asylum seekers were transferred to the provincial migration office.
