Israel detains 26 Palestinian journalists for reporting news on social media

 22 Apr 2021; MEMO: As many as 26 Palestinian journalists are currently detained by Israel for publishing news on social media.

In a statement, the Hamas-run government media office in Gaza said Israel is practicing the most heinous attacks Palestinian journalists and media professionals.

Journalists have been harassed, tortured and fined, the statement said. Bushra Al-Tawil was among those detained.

Jordan submits documents proving Palestinian ownership of Sheikh Jarrah

22 Apr 2021; MEMO: Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday submitted documents to Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas proving Palestinian ownership of Jerusalem's neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, Wafa news agency reported.

India: HC seeks reply on Maliana massacre case from UP Govt

Allahabad, Apr 21 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has sought response from the Uttar Pradesh government on a plea seeking compensation for the victims of 1987 Meerut riots, also known as Maliana massacre case, in which members of a particular community were targeted.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Yadav and Justice Prakash Padia on Monday directed the state government to file counter-affidavit on the public interest litigation in which a plea is also made to reconstruct the court record of the case.

US Sikh community traumatized by yet another terror attack

Japanese journalist arrested in Myanmar

Tokyo, Apr 19 (AP-PTI) Japan's government said on Monday it is asking Myanmar to release a Japanese journalist who was arrested by security forces in its largest city of Yangon the previous day.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters Monday that his government is asking Myanmar authorities to explain the arrest and provide other details while asking for his release as soon as possible.

Israeli police clash with Palestinian crowd in Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Apr 19 (AP-PTI) Israeli police clashed with hundreds of Palestinian protesters outside Jerusalem's Old City, firing stun grenades and a water cannon to disperse the crowd, Israeli media said.

Similar clashes have occurred nightly since the Muslim holy month of Ramadan began last week.

Palestinians say they typically gather on the stairs outside the Old City's Damascus Gate each evening during Ramadan but that this year Israeli police put up barriers to keep away the crowds.

Israel summons director of Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque for interrogation

18 Apr 2021; MEMO: The Israeli intelligence service on Sunday summoned Sheikh Omar al-Kiswani, the director of East Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, for interrogation, according to the Jordan-run Islamic Endowments Authority, Anadolu Agency reported.

The authority, which oversees the holy sites in Jerusalem, did not give any further details about the reason behind the Israeli move.

Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the news.

India should restore special status of J&K for meaningful talks on Kashmir: Cheng Xizhong

BEIJING, April 18 (APP): India should restore original special status of Jammu and Kashmir, withdraw its military and security forces from Jammu and Kashmir to pave way for peaceful and meaningful negotiations for settlement of Kashmir issue.

These views were expressed by Cheng Xizhong, Visiting Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law and former Defense Attaché in South Asian countries said on Sunday.
