UN Security Council to meet Sunday on Gaza, Israel

14 May 2021; MEMO: The UN Security Council will meet this weekend to discuss the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip, the US announced Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported.

In announcing the Sunday meeting, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US's UN envoy, said the Biden administration "will continue to actively engage in diplomacy at the highest levels to try to de-escalate tensions."

Hamas rockets target airport, some airlines canceled flights to Israel

14 May 2021; MEMO: The armed wing of Palestinian resistance group Hamas fired rockets against an airport and major cities in Israel, including Tel Aviv, the group said on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Al-Qassam Brigades group said in a statement that it had launched 250 Ayyash missiles towards Ramon Airport in southern Israel, about 220 kilometers (137 miles) from Gaza.

India: Umar Khalid recovers from COVID-19 in Tihar jail

New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) Former JNU student Umar Khalid, who was arrested in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots, has recovered from COVID-19 in Tihar jail and returned to his cell, officials said on Thursday.

A senior official said Khalid, 33, was isolated within the Tihar jail premises after he showed symptoms of COVID-19.

India: 12-year-old girl raped and killed in UP's Amethi

Amethi (UP), May 14 (PTI) The body of a 12-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree after she was allegedly raped in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, police said on Friday.

According to the family members of the minor, she had gone to graze goats on Thursday evening and did not return home.

When they searched for the girl, they found her body hanging from a tree, the family members alleged in their police complaint.

Jamo SHO Angad Singh said the body has been sent for postmortem and the matter is being probed.

India: MP woman killed for giving birth to 4 girls, and dowry

Shivpuri, May 14 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to four girls, last of which was born just three months ago, and also over dowry in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, police said on Friday.

Savitri Baghel was strangled to death allegedly by her husband Ratan Singh, his father Kilold Singh and mother Benoo Bai at their home in village Dindoli, some 80km from the district headquarters, on Thursday, Police Inspector Ramraja Tiwari said.

Turkey cancels invite issued to Israel minister following attacks on Al-Aqsa

12 May 2021; MEMO: Turkey cancelled an invitation calling on Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum following the recent Israeli attacks on Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem and Gaza, Anadolu Agency reported.

Israel was informed of the cancellation through the Embassy of Turkey in Tel Aviv.

Avengers star demands sanctions on Israel for aggression against Palestinians

13 May 2021; MEMO: A star of the multi-million dollar Avengers movie franchise said it is time for sanctions to be imposed on Israel to free Palestinians.

"Sanctions on South Africa helped free its black people – it's time for sanctions on Israel to free Palestinians. Join the call," Mark Ruffalo wrote on Twitter late Tuesday.
