China puts forward four-point proposal regarding Palestine-Israel conflict

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- China puts forward a four-point proposal regarding escalating Palestine-Israel conflict, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday.

Wang made the remarks when chairing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate on "The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question" via video link.

China urges US to play constructive role in Gaza diplomacy

BEIJING (AP) — China on Monday renewed calls for the U.S. to play a constructive role in ending the conflict in Gaza and stop blocking efforts at the United Nations to demand an end to the bloodshed.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said China, as rotating head of the Security Council, has urged a cease-fire and the provision of humanitarian assistance, among other proposals, but that obstruction by “one country” has prevented the council from speaking with one voice.

EU foreign ministers to discuss Palestine-Israel escalation

16 May 2021; MEMO: Foreign ministers of EU countries will meet on Tuesday to discuss Palestine-Israel escalation as "unacceptable number of civilian casualties" increase, the bloc's top diplomat said on Sunday, reports Anadolu Agency.

"In view of the ongoing escalation between Israel and Palestine and the unacceptable number of civilian casualties, I am convening an extraordinary VTC of the EU Foreign Ministers on Tuesday," EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell wrote on Twitter.

Israeli bombing kills entire family in northern Gaza

16 May 2021; MEMO: All members of a Palestinian family were killed on Thursday night as Israeli warplanes continue to bombard northern Gaza.

The Tanani family which consisted of a father, a pregnant mother, and four children were in their home in Beit Hanoun town when the Israeli army bombed the area without any warning. The entire residential square was destroyed, including the family's home.

Time to show unity, determination on Palestine: Turkish FM

16 May 2021; MEMO: It is time to show unity and determination on Palestine, and Turkey is ready to take any necessary step, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday, reports Anadolu Agency.

At the virtual meeting to discuss Israel's attacks on Palestine, Cavusoglu said that Israel also targeted members of the press and that half of those who lost their lives in Gaza were women and children.

Death toll in Gaza hits 181 as tension with Israel continues for 7th day

GAZA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Tension between Israel and militant groups in the Gaza Strip continued on Sunday for the seventh day in a row as death toll in the coastal enclave climbed to 181 and 1,225 others were injured, officials said.

The health ministry in Gaza said in a press statement that since Monday, 181 Palestinians have been killed, including 52 children and 31 women, and 1,225 others had different injuries.

India: Husband, in-laws booked for woman's murder for dowry

Bhadohi, May 15 (PTI) Police here booked a woman's husband and in-laws for allegedly killing her, an official said on Saturday.

Circle Officer Ashok Kumar Singh said Hansika (23), daughter of Akhilesh Kumar Shukla, a resident of Lucknow, had married to Shivam Dubey three years ago.

Singh said family members of Hansika alleged that after one year of her marriage, her in-laws started demanding dowry and used to beat her up.

On Friday, her in-laws informed that she has committed suicide.
