Delhi riots: HC grants bail to 3 students, says State blurred right to protest & terror act line

New Delhi, June 15 (PTI) In its anxiety to suppress dissent the State has blurred the line between right to protest and terrorist activity and if such a mindset gains traction, it would be a "sad day for democracy", the Delhi High Court said on Tuesday while granting bail to three students from JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in a north-east Delhi riots case.

Gaza fishermen protest against continuous Israel siege

14 June 2021; MEMO: Scores of Palestinian fishermen yesterday staged a protest against the continuous Israeli siege on Gaza, as well as the occupation's aggression on the fishing industry, Anadolu reported.

Fishermen Syndicate in Gaza organised the protest, which took place in the port west of Gaza City.

The fishermen held posters reading: "It is my right to move freely… Yes to the full lifting of the siege." They also raised the Palestine flag.

Israel demolishes Bedouin homes in the West Bank

13 June 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces on Sunday dismantled tents for Palestinian families in a nomadic Bedouin community near the village of Taibe, to the northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, reports Anadolu Agency.

The Israeli soldiers raiding the village in the morning and destroyed 6 houses and animal shelters.

The locals said the demolished tents demolished a shelter for two families with a total of 15 members.

Mediterranean Sea 'largest cemetery in Europe': Pope

14 June 2021; MEMO: The Mediterranean Sea, which desperate refugees and migrants regularly attempt to cross in the hope of a better life, is the "largest cemetery in Europe", Pope Francis said yesterday.

The Pope, who frequently draws attention to the plight of refugees, made his remarks at St Peter's Square in the city of Vatican.

Economic terrorism amid pandemic crime against humanity: Araghchi

Tehran, June 12, IRNA – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a message termed US economic terrorism amid COVID-19 pandemic as "a crime against humanity".

"Trump is gone, but his unlawful & murderous sanctions are still there. No need for crocodile tears when US efforts to immiserate 82 million Iranians are ongoing," Araghchi wrote in his Twitter account on Saturday.

"Economic terrorism amid a PANDEMIC, is a crime against humanity," he added.

Israel kills Palestine teen protesting against illegal settlements

11 June 2021; MEMO: A Palestinian teenager was killed on Friday when Israeli soldiers dispersed protests against illegal Israeli settlements, eyewitnesses said, Andadolu Agency reports.

Also, multiple Palestinians were injured in the demonstrations held in the West Bank cities of Nablus, Qalqilya, and Ramallah.

Uyghurs live in China's 'dystopian hellscape', Amnesty says

11 June 2021; MEMO: China's far western region of Xinjiang has become a "dystopian hellscape" where Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities face systematic and state-organised "mass internment and torture amounting to crimes against humanity", human rights group Amnesty says.

Israel mayor, Jewish extremists storm Arab school in Lod

11 June 2021; MEMO: The Israeli Mayor of Lod city, Yair Revivo, along with members of the religious nationalist movement known as the "Torah Nucleus" yesterday stormed an Arab primary school in the city in an effort to confiscate its playground to include it into the grounds of a Jewish school, Arab48 reported.

The move was carried out under the full protection of Israeli Police.
