India: Activist-poet Varavara Rao issued NBW by Sessions Court

Bengaluru, Oct 23 (PTI): A court in Madhugiri in Tumakuru district, Karnataka, has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against activist and revolutionary poet Varavara Rao. He is out on bail on medical grounds in a different case with a condition not to move out of Mumbai, his lawyer said.

"It's a case pertaining to an attack on policemen in Tumakuru in 2005 in which Varavara Rao and Gaddar (another activist-poet) are among the accused," advocate S Balan told PTI.

India: Mehbooba slams CDS Rawat's remarks on curbs in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 24 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday charged that repression was the Centre's only method to deal with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to the remarks by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat warning of further curbs in Kashmir to tackle the recent violence, Mehbooba also said his statement contradicts the official narrative that all is well in the valley.

22 Oct 2021; MEMO: Former Saudi intelligence official, Saad Aljabri, yesterday accused the kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS) of holding his children hostage in the Gulf state.

Al Jabri re-iterated his previous claims that the Saudi royal was plotting to send a hitman to kill him, adding: "Bin Salman has taken my children, Sarah and Omar, hostage as part of his plot."

India: Azad seeks CBI probe into custodial death of Dalit man in UP

Agra, Oct 22 (PTI) Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the custodial death of a sanitation worker in Agra.

If the demand was not met, he said a protest will held in Agra.

Azad on Friday evening visited Agra and met family members of Arun Narwar, who allegedly died in the custody of police on Tuesday night.

Arun was from the Valmiki community and lived near the Lohamandi police station in Agra city.

Israel to approve 3,000 new settlement units in West Bank

22 Oct 2021; MEMO: Israel is set to advance the construction of more than 3,000 settlement units in the occupied West Bank including East Jerusalem, local media reported.

The weekly schedule published by the Civil Administration's planning committee showed that it intends to approve the construction of the new settlement units in Revava, Kedumim, Elon Moreh, Karnei Shomron and settler communities in Gush Etzion and the Hebron Hills.

New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday alleged that the Modi government subscribes to pluralism in the world but supports majoritarianism in India.

He said the new Quad consists of four countries that reflect the pluralism of the world with the US (secular, but mainly Christian), India (secular, but mainly Hindu), Israel (Jewish) and the UAE (Islamic).
