01 Nov 2021; MEMO: A group of US military officers is urging that the Pakistani man sentenced to prison should now be freed after he detailed the torture he faced from the CIA.

Last week, Majid Khan became the first detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to publicly outline the kind of torture he received at one of the CIA's so-called "black sites", during the war on terror and the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

India: Kashmiri leader Mehbooba Mufti placed under house arrest - again

Srinagar, Nov 1 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday put under house arrest to prevent her from visiting Anantnag to meet the family of a youth who was killed in cross-firing between security forces and militants last week, a party leader claimed.

The Peoples Democratic Party leader claimed that the police have locked the main gate of Mehbooba's house.

A police official said the PDP chief was not allowed to visit Anantnag due to security reasons.

Israel: Bennett 'strongly rejects' creation of Palestinian state

01 Nov 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has said that his government "strongly rejects" the creation of a Palestinian state, Quds Press reported yesterday.

According to the news site, prior to heading to Glasgow to take part in the UN conference on climate change, Bennett told the Times: "Creating state-like entities doesn't work."

‘Palestinians ready to engage with Chinese to tell them our story’

30 Oct 2021; AA: Palestinians are ready to engage with the Chinese government and people to “tell them our story,” speakers and experts told an Istanbul conference on Saturday.

However, a formal engagement with Beijing also requires platforms and vibrant activism, they added.

“We are ready and willing to engage with Chinese lawmakers to explain our story,” said Sheikh Hamid Al-Ahmar, addressing the first international conference on China and the Palestinian cause.

Israel locks up 2 Palestine neighbourhoods with iron gates

30 Oct 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces on Friday locked up two Palestinian neighbourhoods with iron gates in the occupied West Bank, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli occupation closed the iron gate of the neighbourhood of Sanjal in the north of the West Bank city of Ramallah, preventing people from entering or leaving the area.

India: Pawar decries trolling of Muslim players after loss to Pakistan

Mumbai, Oct 29 (PTI) NCP chief and former ICC chairman Sharad Pawar on Friday described the trolling and abuse faced by some Indian players on social media after the loss to Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match as "indecent".

Some players, especially pacer Mohammad Shami, were targeted on social media following the loss.

It is my appeal to the so-called cricket lovers that they should refrain from discouraging players with such criticism," Pawar said during an event here.

India: UP Man held for kidnapping, raping minor in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Oct 30 (PTI) A 22-year-old man here has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor, police said Saturday.

The accused and the victim belong to different communities and are residents of the same village, they said.

The 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted on October 20, they added.

On the complaint of her father, a case of kidnapping was filed against the man on October 25 at Phephna police station, Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Chandra Tiwari said.
