Israel gives 'full backing' to soldiers who killed wounded Palestinian

06 Dec 2021; MEMO: Top Israeli occupation officials, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, yesterday hailed the Israeli police border officers who killed at point blank range a wounded Palestinian youth.

Palestinian youth Mohammad Salimah, 25, was shot dead after wounding an Israeli at Jerusalem's Damascus Gate on Saturday.

Israeli newspaper the Jerusalem Post reported that the killing of the motionless Palestinian had been described as a "war crime".

India: Priyanka slams UP govt over 'lathi-charge' on protesters

New Delhi, Dec 5 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the reported lathi-charge by police on a group of protesters in Lucknow, saying the Yogi Adityanath dispensation has become synonymous with misrule.

Her attack on the BJP government came over media reports that claimed the Lucknow Police on Saturday evening used batons on a group of protesters holding a candlelight march alleging irregularities in the 2019 Uttar Pradesh teachers' entrance test.

Bangladesh calls for recognition of State of Palestine

03 Dec 2021; MEMO: Bangladesh called on the international community to do more to achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian crisis by recognising an independent State of Palestine and its rightful place in the United Nations (UN).

"The international community must make genuine efforts to address the root causes of the Palestinian crisis, and put an end to the Israeli aggression," said Bangladesh's Ambassador to the UN, Rabab Fatima, while addressing the UN General Assembly yesterday.

Israel's spyware hacks phones of US officials

04 Dec 2021; MEMO: The iPhones of at least nine senior US officials have been hacked by sophisticated spyware developed by Israeli-based NSO Group, Reuters revealed on Friday.

The US officials are employees of the US State Department, Reuters reported, and the iPhones were hacked in recent months.

Reuters disclosed two of its sources stating that the US State Department employees were either based in Uganda or focused on matters relating to Uganda.

India: 3 Kashmiri students move Allahabad HC for bail

Prayagraj, Dec 2 (PTI) Three Kashmiri students, studying engineering in an Agra college and arrested on sedition and cyber-terrorism charges, have moved the Allahabad High Court directly for bail, saying that lawyers in the Taj city have refused to take up their case for bail in the sessions court.

The three students were arrested in October this year for cheering Pakistan following the neighbouring country's victory in a T20 Cricket World Cup match against India.

Hamas applauds Malaysia's anti-normalisation stance

"Hamas hails Malaysia's genuine stance of rejecting all forms of normalisation with the Zionist enemy, and the latest was refusing the entry of a Zionist sports team to its land," the statement said.

Cambridge students calls for university to divest from apartheid Israel

02 Dec 2021; MEMO: Members of Cambridge Palestine Solidarity Society (PalSoc) joined with students across the country on Monday to call on all UK universities to "end their complicity in Israeli apartheid".

Students demonstrated to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people and demand the university review its ties "with all corporations implicated in illegal Israeli policies" and "immediately severe formal links and partnerships with BAE Systems, Caterpillar and all other companies or institutions deemed complicit."

India: Minor girl gangraped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Dec 2 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two men of her village in Nagra area here, police said on Thursday.

According to the FIR registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act on Wednesday, Prince Chauhan and Manish Rajbhar allegedly raped the girl some days ago, a police officer said.

The exact date of the incident was not mentioned in the FIR, the officer said.

UN-OHCH expresss deep concern over human rights violations in Kashmir, India says its baseless

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) India on Thursday hit out at the UN human rights body for its "baseless" allegations against it over the arrest of an activist in Jammu and Kashmir, and asserted that the comments "betray" a complete lack of understanding of the security challenges in the region in view of cross-border terrorism.

Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said authorities in India act against violations of law and not against legitimate exercise of rights.
