India: Nagaland calls off Hornbill Festival over civilian killings by security forces

Kohima, Dec 7 (PTI) The cabinet of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday decided to call off the ongoing Hornbill Festival in protest against the killing of 14 civilians by security forces, official sources said.

The state government has also decided to write to the Centre demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, they said.

The 10-day Hornbill Festival, the state's largest tourism extravaganza held at Naga Heritage Village in Kisama near the state capital, was scheduled to end on December 10.

PA calls for probing Israel's disposal of hazardous nuclear waste in the occupied territories

08 Dec 2021; MEMO: Two prominent international rights groups yesterday condemned travel bans imposed by Israel on Palestinian journalists, which mean they are unable to leave the Gaza Strip or the West Bank.

In a joint statement, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med Monitor) called for an immediate end to the unjustified Israeli practice.

Saudi suspect of Khashoggi murder arrested in France

According to reports by French media, the former Saudi Royal Guard, Khalid Aedh Al-Otaibi, was arrested at Charles-de-Gaulle airport today, after being found travelling under his own name.

Israel's Gantz cannot be prosecuted in Gaza bombing case: Dutch court

07 Dec 2021; MEMO: A Dutch appeals court today ruled that Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz was immune from civil prosecution in the Netherlands in a case brought over the deaths of six Palestinians in an Israeli air strike on Gaza.

The court upheld a lower court's finding of January 2020 that Gantz, as a high-ranking Israeli official carrying out government policy, could not be held liable in a Dutch civil case.

Kuwait bans entry of ships carrying goods to and from Israel

05 Dec 2021; MEMO: Kuwait has issued a decree banning the entry of commercial vessels carrying goods to and from Israel from its territorial waters.

The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Rana Al-Faris, announced the ban yesterday.

UN Human Rights Office 'shocked' by 'extra-judicial' killing of Palestinian youth

The UN Human Rights Office said on Saturday night that it was "shocked" by the "extra-judicial" killing of Palestinian youth Mohammad Salimah by Israeli border police.

"The UN Human Rights Office is shocked by the apparent extra-judicial execution of Mohammad Shawkat Sleemah today at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem," a statement posted on the office's Facebook page said.
