Jordan condemns Israel's aggression in East Jerusalem

14 Feb 2022; MEMO: Jordan, on Monday, decried the Israeli aggression in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem, calling it a breach of international laws, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"The eviction and deportation orders against the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem are a violation of international and humanitarian laws," Haitham Abu Al-Foul, spokesperson for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, said in a statement.

Israel imposes travel ban on Sheikh Raed Salah

15 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israel has imposed a travel ban on Sheikh Raed Salah, the leader of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, his lawyer Khaled Zabarqa said yesterday.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Zabarqa said that the decision was taken by Israeli Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and that the one-month ban can be extended to up to six months.

"This is an arbitrary and illegal decision and is part of the political persecution by the Israeli authorities against Sheikh Raed Salah," Zabarqa said.

Sudan's Burhan dismisses sanctions threats, says Israel visits not political

13 Feb 2022; MEMO: Sudan's military leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Saturday dismissed Western threats of sanctions and said meetings between Sudanese and Israeli officials were part of security cooperation rather than political in nature, reported Reuters.

European political party slams Greece for new probe into Turkish minority group

13 Feb 2022; MEMO: A European political party slammed Greece on Friday for a new probe launched into a Turkish minority association that organised a march for rights in July.

The march by the Xanthi Turkish Union (Iskece Turk Birligi-ITB), one of the oldest and most influential associations of Turkish minorities in Greece, had been attended by thousands of people and prominent figures who protested that Greece had not applied decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) which favored the minority.

Algeria rights group to prosecute France for nuclear tests

14 Feb 2022; MEMO: A human rights organisation that defends victims of French nuclear tests in Algeria announced that it is preparing a judicial file to be submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in response to France's failure to respond to the Algerians' repeated demands for compensation for the victims of nuclear explosions in the south of the country, Echorouk news site reported.

Israel occupation forces attack Sheikh Jarrah residents

14 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israel's occupation forces and Jewish settlers, including extremist parliamentarian Itamar Ben-Gvir, have renewed their attacks on the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah in occupied Jerusalem. According to Wafa news agency, the Israelis have blocked the western entrance of the neighbourhood and assaulted local residents and solidarity activists with rubber-coated metal bullets, tear gas and sound bombs. Dozens have been injured, and seven have been arrested.

Tunisia judges' union calls to boycott temporary Supreme Judicial Council

14 Feb 2022; MEMO: The executive office of the Union of Administrative Magistrates of Tunisia (UMA) has called on Tunisian judges not to recognise the temporary Supreme Judicial Council appointed by President Kais Saied and to boycott its work.

In a statement published on Facebook, the UMA warned that the Council "represents a flagrant violation of the principle of separation of powers" and "undermines the judges right to choose their counterparts" in the Council through fair elections.

Palestinian official threatens 'open conflict' with Israel

13 Feb 2022; MEMO: The head of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Rawhi Fattouh, has threatened an "open conflict" with Israel, amid a deadlock in peace talks between Tel Aviv and the Palestinians.

Speaking on state television late Saturday, Fattouh said the international community has until September to respond to Palestinian demands and hold an international conference for the Middle East peacemaking.

India: Karnataka hijab row: High schools reopen in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Feb 14 (PTI) High schools in Karnataka reopened on Monday after being shut from last Wednesday following untoward incidents in parts of the State over the hijab row.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed in sensitive areas in the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, and Bengaluru.
