UK: NHS paediatrician racially profiled, humiliated at Cambridge event

12 Feb 2022; MEMO: A young doctor and father of two has condemned how he was racially profiled and humiliated when he turned up to attend a lecture by Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely at the University of Cambridge last Wednesday.

Dr Zeshan Qureshi, a Cambridge Union member of good standing, said he had acquired a ticket to attend the event through official processes.

International community must act against Israeli apartheid, says ex-attorney general

11 Feb 2022; MEMO: Michael Benyair, a former Israeli Attorney General and a former acting judge in the Israeli Supreme Court, has called on the international community to take meaningful steps to end Israel's apartheid rule in Palestine.

Writing in the journal, Benyair said he has spent much of his career analysing the legal questions concerning Israel's occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem.

India Hijab row: Plea filed in SC challenging Karnataka HC order

New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI) An appeal has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the direction of the Karnataka High Court that has asked students not to insist on wearing any cloth on campuses of educational institutions which can instigate people, till the matter is resolved.

The plea filed by a student has sought a stay on the direction of the high court, which is hearing the hijab issue, as well as the proceedings going on before the three judge bench.

India: Sangh outfits fomenting trouble: CFI

Mangaluru, Feb 9 (PTI) The hijab issue which first surfaced at a pre-university in Udupi could have been resolved locally and the Sangh Parivar outfits are responsible for spreading it to other districts, Campus Front of India (CFI) Karnataka state president Atauallah Punjalkatte alleged on Wednesday.

Addressing reporters at Udupi, he claimed that the Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat had also encouraged the Sangh outfits even when the High Court was hearing the issue.

India: SC to consider listing plea on Karnataka hijab row

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would consider a submission seeking the listing of a plea for transferring a case on the hijab row from the Karnataka High Court to itself.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana said the high court is seized of the case and should be allowed to continue with the hearing and decide it.

India: NCP holds demonstration supporting 'hijab' in Maha

Pune, Feb 10 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) city unit held a demonstration in Pune on Thursday in support of 'hijab' for female Muslim students, amid a controversy over the issue in neighbouring Karnataka.

A number of girls and women held placards with the message 'hijab is our right, hijab is our pride', as part of the demonstration in Phule Wada area here in Maharashtra.

Israel approves plan to link settlements in occupied East Jerusalem

08 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israeli authorities approved one billion shekels ($0.31 billion) to fund several major projects that will link all illegal Jewish-only settlements in occupied East Jerusalem to the western part of the city, Arab48 reported today.

According to Israel's Jerusalem Municipality financial committee, the authorities plan to advance the infrastructure, high roads and the expansion of the light railway to connect the settlements in East Jerusalem with the western neighbourhoods of the city.

Israel warned about increasing numbers calling it an 'apartheid state'

08 Feb 2022; MEMO: The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) at Tel Aviv University has issued a warning about the increasing number of parties classifying Israel as an apartheid state, Arab48.com reported on Tuesday. The INSS stressed that the reports which describe Israeli apartheid "should be an alarm bell for the future."
