With Taliban’s rise, India sees renewed threat in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — India’s leaders are anxiously watching the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, fearing that it will benefit their bitter rival Pakistan and feed a long-simmering insurgency in the disputed region of Kashmir, where militants already have a foothold.

Lt. Gen. Deependra Singh Hooda, former military commander for northern India between 2014-2016, said militant groups based across the border in Pakistan would “certainly try and push men” into Kashmir, following the Taliban victory in Afghanistan.

India: Raped for 2 years by cop uncle in UP, young woman jumps into river

Kanpur: A 25-year-old woman, tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Ganga after being allegedly raped by her cop uncle. He has been serving as a head constable. She had been facing the dreadfulness over the last two years, police said here on Monday.

Divers and police rescued the woman who a native of Mirzapur district, had jumped into the river on Sunday, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pramod Kumar.

A case has been lodged in the matter based on the woman's complaint. She belongs to Mirzapur district.

Afghanistan: Once inmates, Taliban now in charge in a Kabul prison

KABUL (AP) — Once, Kabul’s main prison was crowded with thousands of Taliban captured and arrested by the government. On Monday, a Taliban commander strolled through its empty halls and cell blocks, showing his friends where he had once been imprisoned.

It was a sign of the sudden and startling new order in Afghanistan after the militant group swept into the capital nearly a month ago and threw out the crumbling, U.S.-backed government it had fought for 20 years.

India: Saturdays to be working now: Kerala govt

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 14 (PTI) After withdrawing the night curfew and stringent lockdown measures on Sundays, which were imposed in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the state, the Kerala government on Tuesday decided to restore Saturdays as working days, wherever applicable.

"All employees are instructed to report for duty (on Saturdays) accordingly," an order issued by the Disaster Management Department said.

India: Temple priest beaten to death in MP

Dhar (MP), Sep 14 (PTI) A 58-year-old priest of a temple was allegedly beaten to death by some unidentified persons who were loitering outside the premises in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, police said on Tuesday.

While the attack took place at Gyanpura village, about 7 km from the district headquarters, late on Sunday night, the priest Baba Arundas succumbed to his injuries on Monday, an official said.

India: Woman axed to death by mother-in-law

Jamshedpur, Sep 13 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was axed to death allegedly by her mother-in-law in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district, police said on Monday.

The victim Bhawani Layek had an altercation with her mother-in-law Gita Layek over a petty domestic issue on Sunday, which turned serious and the accused picked an axe and hit Bhawani in a fit of rage, a police officer said,

Bhawani was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead, he said.

India: Reliance Industries shares decline over 2 pc

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd on Monday slipped more than 2 per cent after Jio delayed the launch of its ultra-low-cost smartphone, possibly due to semiconductor shortages that the industry is facing.

The market heavyweight declined 2.25 per cent to Rs 2,370.85 on BSE.

At NSE, it went lower by 2.25 per cent to Rs 2,371.

Jio has delayed the launch of its ultra-low-cost smartphone it is developing with Google, to Diwali, possibly due to semiconductor shortages that the industry is facing.

Pakistan commercial passenger flight takes off from Kabul -reuters witness

ISLAMABAD, Sept 13 (Reuters) - A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) commercial passenger flight took off from Kabul airport on Monday, bound for Islamabad, a Reuters witness said.

The PIA (PIAa.PSX) flight is the first commercial passenger flight from Kabul since the foreign troop withdrawal and evacuation process was completed in Afghanistan. Last week the Qatari government flew civilian charters out of Kabul.
