India: J-K admin terminates services of judge, no reasons given

Srinagar, Sep 11 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has terminated services of civil judge with immediate effect.

An order to this effect was issued on Friday by the secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on the directions of the J-K Lieutenant Governor.

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked the BJP-led Centre, saying they sold everything in seven years that the Congress-led governments set up in 70 years.

Addressing the national executive of the Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI), he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was dubbed a weak PM at the time of the Mumbai terror attacks but the media did not question Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the time of Pulwama attacks.

India: Rahul attacks govt over 'job losses' on Ford manufacturing clouser

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday attacked the government over the issue of employment, saying the difference between a week off and a working day has ended under this dispensation as "there are no jobs".

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi tagged a media report on US auto major Ford deciding to stop vehicle manufacturing in India which quoted an industry insider as saying that over 4,000 small firms could shut down.

India: Arvind Kejriwal re-elected as AAP national convenor

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was re-elected as the national convenor of the AAP at the national executive meeting of the party on Sunday, according to sources.

Party leaders Pankaj Gupta and N D Gupta were elected as secretary and party treasurer, respectively.

The national council of the Aam Aadmi Party had elected a new 34-member executive body, which included Kejriwal, on Saturday.

India: Four of family killed in cloudburst in J-K's Baramulla

Srinagar, Sep 12 (PTI) Four members of a nomad family, including three minors, were killed when a cloudburst occurred in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

The cloudburst occurred in the upper belt of Dangiwacha at Hamam Marcoot in Sopore area of the north Kashmir district on Saturday night, the officials said.

Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot and four bodies have been recovered, they said.

India: Haryana govt orders judicial probe into Aug 28 incident, farmers call off Karnal sit-in

Chandigarh, Sep 11 (PTI) The Haryana government on Saturday ordered a judicial probe into last month's clash between farmers and police and sent the IAS officer who is at the centre of a row over his remarks on leave. Following this, farmers called off their sit-in outside the Karnal district headquarters.

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Devender Singh said the probe will be conducted by a retired judge and will be completed within a month. Former SDM Ayush Sinha will remain on leave during the time, he said.

Afghanistan: Taliban flag rises over seat of power on fateful anniversary

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban raised their flag over the Afghan presidential palace Saturday, a spokesman said, as the U.S. and the world marked the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The white banner, emblazoned with a Quranic verse, was hoisted by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the prime minister of the Taliban interim government, in a low-key ceremony, said Ahmadullah Muttaqi, multimedia branch chief of the Taliban’s cultural commission.

Pakistan: India aided terrorist activities from Afghan soil; violated UN charter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11 (APP): India had been using Afghan soil against Pakistan since 2001 by investing about $3 billion on infrastructure, training of Afghan forces and other projects to establish a network for its permanent foothold and to achieve its overt and covert designs.

According to experts, by sponsoring terrorism against Pakistan from Afghan territory, India had violated different Articles of the United Nations Charter including Article 2(4), Article 41(3) of the Vienna Convention, and Paras 2 and 5 of UN Security Council Resolution 1373 of 2001.

Protest called off as gov't accepts farmers' demands in India's Haryana

NEW DELHI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The farmers protesting outside the main government office in the northern Indian state of Haryana Saturday called off their strike after the local government accepted most of their demands, officials said.

The farmers were on protest outside the mini-secretariat (government building housing major offices) in Karnal district.

Senior official from the Haryana government Devender Singh and farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni held a joint press conference.
