NEW DELHI, September 9. /TASS/: The leaders of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) emphasized the importance of using science-based methods to figure out the origins of the coronavirus, according to the New Delhi Declaration adopted at the 13th BRICS summit on Thursday.

Taliban interim government agrees to let foreigners leave Afghanistan

Sept 9 (Reuters) - Two hundred foreigners in Afghanistan, Americans among them, are set to depart on charter flights from Kabul on Thursday after the new Taliban government agreed to their evacuation, a U.S. official said.

The departures will be among the first international flights to take off from Kabul airport since the Islamist militia seized the capital in mid-August, triggering the chaotic U.S.-led evacuation of 124,000 foreigners and at-risk Afghans.

Farmer protests enter 3rd day in India's Haryana state

NEW DELHI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing farmers' protests outside the main government office in the northern Indian state of Haryana entered the third day on Thursday, officials said.

The protesting farmers are on a sit-in protest outside the mini-secretariat (government building housing major offices) in Haryana's Karnal district, demanding action against a government official who ordered the baton charging against farmers on Aug. 28 in Haryana. The video of the official ordering police officers to "smash heads of farmers" went viral on the social media.

India: IIT-Kanpur comes fifth in overall rankings by NIRF

Kanpur: The country's top three higher education institutions in the sixth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was announced today by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. 

In the overall category, IIT-K has achieved the fifth rank with 76.50 points.

The number of Indian institutes registered for the NIRF ranking 2020 increased by 20 per cent as compared to the year 2019.

In the year 2020, as many as 3,800 institutes participated in NIRF Rankings. In 2021, the number remained at a total of 6000.

India: Rahul Gandhi on two-day visit to Jammu from Sep 9

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be on a two-day visit to Jammu from Thursday, during which he will pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.

Gandhi will leave for Jammu on Thursday and will participate in the evening 'aarti' at the temple. He will stay at the shrine board's guesthouse, sources said.

The former Congress chief will address a workers' convention at Jammu on Friday and will meet separate delegations of local leaders during a luncheon meeting, they said.

India: Violent clashes erupt between BJP and CPI(M) activists in Tripura

Agartala, Sept 8 (PTI) Violent clashes erupted between activists of the ruling BJP and the principal opposition, CPI(M), in different parts of Tripura on Wednesday.

Trouble started at Udaipur town in Gomati district of Tripura after CPI(M)'s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India took out a procession and a few activists from the rally allegedly attacked a ruling BJP activist who was passing by, injuring him seriously.

India: CCS clears procurement of 56 transport aircraft for IAF

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) In a major decision, the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday approved the procurement of 56 C-295 medium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force to replace its ageing Avro planes which were first inducted around 60 years ago.

Sixteen aircraft will be delivered in a flyaway condition by the Airbus Defence and Space of Spain within 48 months of signing the contract while the remaining 40 planes will be manufactured in India, according to the defence ministry.

India: US acting ambassador meets RSS Chief Bhagwat

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) US acting ambassador Atul Keshap met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Keshap said he held a "good discussion" with Bhagwat on how "India's tradition of diversity, democracy, inclusivity, and pluralism can ensure the vitality and strength of a truly great nation."

Waze posted a message on the Telegram showing 'Jaish-ul-Hind' taking responsibility for planting the explosives.
