India: NCRB finds better conviction figures by Kanpur police

Afghan envoys marooned abroad after Taliban's sudden return

Sept 16 (Reuters) - The Taliban's abrupt return to power has left hundreds of Afghan diplomats overseas in limbo: running out of money to keep missions operating, fearful for families back home and desperate to secure refuge abroad.

The Islamist militant movement, which swiftly ousted Afghanistan's Western-backed government on Aug. 15, said on Tuesday that it had sent messages to all of its embassies telling diplomats to continue their work.

UN refugee chief warns 'greater suffering' likely in Afghanistan

Sept 16 (Reuters) - Afghanistan needs urgent and sustained support from the international community to prevent a larger humanitarian crisis, the head of the U.N. refugee agency said, warning of global implications if that were to happen.

"The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains desperate," U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said in a statement after a three-day visit to the South Asian nation.

Bangladesh PM eyes 60 mln Chinese vaccines in next three months

DHAKA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Wednesday her government is expecting to receive 60 million doses of Chinese COVID-19 vaccines in the next three months.

She made the remark while replying to a tabled question from a lawmaker during the prime minister's question-answer session in the parliament.

In line with a schedule given by Sinopharm, she said, "A total of 60 million vaccines doses -- 20 million doses each month -- will be available in the country from China till December from next month."

First passenger plane from Iran lands in Afghanistan

15 Sep 2021; MEMO: Passenger flights between Iran and Afghanistan resumed today, Iran's state-run Al-Alam TV channel reported.

According to Reuters, an Iranian Mahan Air plane landed in Kabul with 19 passengers on board, coming from the city of Mashhad today.

Regular passenger services to Kabul had stopped after the Taliban gained control of the Afghan capital last month.

India: Raped girl commits suicide after rapist released on bail

Nagpur, Sep 15 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after the man accused of raping her was recently released from jail on bail in Maharashtra's Nagpur city, police said on Wednesday.

The girl, who lived with her father, stepmother and brother, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling at her home in Jaripatka area on Monday, senior inspector Nitin Phatangare of Jaripatka police station said.

India: One dies, another injured in a crane-bike whack

Kanpur: A young employee of Private Pharma Company died and his friend suffered serious injuries when a speedy Crane hit their motorcycle in Naubasta area on Tuesday afternoon.

The employee got stuck near the Crane's wheel thereby colliding with the divider. He was dragged a few metres that caused his tragic death.

Reported to be a manager in the firm he was on his way to Naubasta from Bidhnoo. 34-year-old Puneet Pal got stuck into iron angle of the wheel while his friend Satwik was badly injured.

India: Rains lashes Jajmau after a long gap of time
