India: Minor raped by family acquaintance in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 15 PTI A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an acquaintance of her family after he laced their beverage with an intoxicant here, police said.

The incident took place at the victim's residence under Kotwali police station limits in the district on Sunday, they said.

Police have named the accused as Munna, who is absconding, police said.

India: JNU sees fresh clashes between ABVP-left student parties

New Delhi, Nov 15 (PTI) Members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated ABVP and the JNUSU allegedly got into an argument over organising a programme at the student union hall in Jawaharlal Nehru University campus here, police said on Monday.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) accused each other of attacking their members and injuring other students on Sunday night.

An FIR has not been registered yet, police said.

India: Naxal commander killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

Narayanpur, Nov 15 (PTI) A Naxal commander was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Monday, a senior police official said.

The gunfight took place at around 11.30 am in the forest of Bahker under Chhotedongar police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an area domination operation, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Girija Shankar Jaiswal said.

India: Steps to curb Zika virus on in Kanpur & other districts

Kanpur: Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad has said that the city has reported a total of 123 cases of Zika virus so far.

He added that out of these cases, 96 cases are currently active in Kanpur.

One case of Zika virus was recently reported in Kannauj while three cases were reported in Lucknow respectively.

He further pointed out that a total of 123 cases of Zika virus have been reported in Kanpur district so far, out of which 96 cases are active.

India: Qazi conducts nikah after groom's family repent for fireworks & music

Kanpur: The shaher qazi refused to conduct a 'nikah' (marriage), saying that the DJ band and fireworks at the ceremony were against the 'Sharia' laws.

He agreed to perform the 'nikah' only after the groom's family apologised for their conduct and stopped the DJ and the fireworks. The high-voltage drama lasted for nearly two long hours.

According to reports, the marriage of the son of a businessman from the Talaq Mahal area was to be solemnised with a girl in the Jajmau area two days ago.

A band accompanied the marriage procession and there were fireworks too.

Kanpur: The municipal corporation has started to shine the routes through which the convoy of President will pass.

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind will stay here on November 24 and 25.

India: Students fail norm of discipline after school gets over

Kanpur: In the morning hours the students look in discipline but after school is over a kind of indiscipline surrounds them. They are seen standing in groups on the not so wide road and cause problems.

This spectacle remains noticeable at the front side of a very posh school here. Why do they become so indisciplined?

They appear to be relaxed moving out of the school gate. They indulge in conversation, pass remarks and giggle, spare little space for the moving vehicles despite continuous horns.

Mediating between Pakistan, TTP; no agreement reached yet: Muttaqi

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has confirmed that they were mediating between Pakistan and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), though no agreement was reached yet.

Muttaqi, who was visiting here mainly to attend Troika Plus meeting, told BBC Urdu in an interview published Sunday that the Taliban government was mediating on the desire of both the parties in Pakistan.

He said the parties had not yet reached an agreement; the beginning was a good one with the announcement of a month-long ceasefire.

Indian Troops Kill 26 Rebels In Maharashtra State

NEW DELHI, Nov 14 (NNN-PTI) – At least 26 armed rebels, known as Naxals, were killed, in an encounter with the Indian security forces, in the south-western Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, yesterday, local media reported.

Four security personnel were also injured in the gunfight, that took place in the Mardintola forest area.

“So far, bodies of 26 Naxals have been recovered from the forest,” media reports quoted a top police official as saying.

Afghanistan: Taliban hold military parade with U.S.-made weapons in Kabul in show of strength

KABUL, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Taliban forces held a military parade in Kabul on Sunday using captured American-made armoured vehicles and Russian helicopters in a display that showed their ongoing transformation from an insurgent force to a regular standing army.

The Taliban operated as insurgent fighters for two decades but have used the large stock of weapons and equipment left behind when the former Western-backed government collapsed in August to overhaul their forces.
