India: BJP vandals target Khurshid's Nainital home over his book

Dehradun/New Delhi, Nov 15 (PTI) Congress leader Salman Khurshid's house in Uttarakhand's Nainital was vandalised on Monday amid the row over his recent book in which he draws a comparison between Hindutva and ISIS.

Referring to a photograph of people who targeted his house, the former Union minister told PTI that they were carrying the BJP flag and the party should issue a denial .

India: Collective marriage of over 2,300 couples in UP

Ghaziabad (UP), Nov 15 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday virtually blessed over 2,300 couples on the occasion of collective marriage ceremony held at Kamla Nehru Nagar Ground.

The programme was organised by the "Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board" following the scheme of the state government. In this wedding programme, the daughters of labourers who are registered in the labour department were enrolled, District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh told PTI.

India: IREO's Lalit Goyal arrested by ED

New Delhi, Nov 16 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested the vice chairman and managing director of real estate group IREO, Lalit Goyal, in connection with a money laundering probe against him, officials said on Tuesday.

The businessman has been taken into custody under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the federal probe agency in Chandigarh and will be produced before a local court for seeking his remand, they said.

India: AP seeks to take back lands given to Central PSUs

Amaravati, Nov 16 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government is seeking to take back close to 750 acres of land it allotted to NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Private Ltd (NBPPL) at Mannavaram village in Chittoor district as the joint venture company is on the verge of winding up its business.

This apart, the state government is also listing out lands given at concessional rates to various other Central government public sector undertakings for setting up their units across AP.

India: Kartarpur Sahib corridor to be reopened from Wednesday

New Delhi, Nov 16 (PTI) The Kartarpur Sahib corridor to the most revered shrines of Sikhs located in Pakistan will be reopened from Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday.

The corridor links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur district.

The announcement to restart the pilgrimage that was suspended since March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak came three days before the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on Friday.

India: Farmers shouldn't be blamed for air pollution: Tikait

Ghaziabad, Nov 16 (PTI) Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday said farmers or stubble burning should not be blamed for air pollution, citing a Supreme Court observation.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson, who has been one of the most prominent faces of the protests at Delhi borders against the Centre's farm laws, also demanded an apology from those holding the farming community responsible for pollution woes.

Nepal Starts Vaccinating Nationals Aged Under 18

KATHMANDU, Nov 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Nepali government started vaccinating its population aged below 18 with COVID-19 vaccines yesterday, said a senior official from the Ministry of Health and Population.

“We have started vaccinating people aged 12 and above with the Pfizer vaccine starting from Sunday,” Sagar Dahal, chief of the National Immunisation Programme under the ministry, told Xinhua. “It is for the first time that we vaccinate people aged under 18.”

India Reports 10,229 New COVID-19 Cases With Active Infections Lowest In 17 Months

NEW DELHI, Nov 15 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 34,447,536 today, as 10,229 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the health ministry’s latest data.

Besides, as many as 125 deaths due to the pandemic were reported since yesterday morning, taking the total death toll to 463,655.

There are still 134,096 active COVID-19 cases, the lowest active caseload in 523 days, in the country, with a fall of 1,822 active cases during the past 24 hours.

Blast in Afghan capital wounds two

KABUL, Nov 15 (Reuters) - A bomb blast in the Afghan capital of Kabul wounded two people on Monday, the Taliban's interior ministry said, just two days after a similar explosion that was claimed by the Islamic State militant group.

Both devices were of a magnetic type attached to vehicles that have become common in Afghanistan, generally causing fewer casualties and less damage than suicide attacks, but used in targeted killings that undermine confidence in security.

Bangladesh, UAE hold 5th Joint Commission meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation

DHAKA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The fifth session of the Joint Commission meeting between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was held Monday in Dhaka to discuss a range of bilateral initiatives.

The meeting was co-chaired by Bangladeshi Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, minister of state, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE.

Senior officials of both sides attended the meeting face-to-face while their team leaders joined the meeting virtually.
