India: Man arrested for raping minor, extortion in UP

Noida, Nov 16 (PTI) A Rampur-based man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl here two years ago after drugging her and photographing the episode, the Noida Police said on Tuesday.

The accused, who is in his early 20s, was held after a complaint was lodged by the mother of the rape survivor on Monday, Gautam Buddh Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women and Child Safety) Vrinda Shukla said.

Agra (UP), Nov 16 (PTI) A 52-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly raping an old woman, police said on Tuesday.

Inspector of Jagdishpura police station Pravindra Kumar Singh said a case has been registered against accused Vikas Sharma while the victim underwent a medical examination.

India: TV debates causing more pollution than anybody: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Nov 17 (PTI) Debates on TV news channels are causing more pollution than anybody with statements made in the court being taken out of context, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana said everyone has their own agenda and statements are taken out of context in these debates.

India: Unnao becomes fourth infected district with Zika virus in UP

Kanpur: Zika has reached Unnao with only one case on Tuesday. He has been sent to the dengue ward in district hospital in Unnao.

Thus it becomes the fourth district after Kanpur, Lucknow and Kannauj.

The Health department officials said that the 35-year-old patient is from Mishra Colony in Shuklaganj.

He travels daily to Kanpur where he works at a thread factory in Lal Bangla in Jajmau area.

A total of 130 Zika virus cases have been reported in Kanpur so far.

Bangladesh, UAE Hold 5th Joint Commission Meeting To Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

DHAKA, Nov 16 (NNN-BSS) – The fifth session of the Joint Commission meeting between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was held yesterday in Dhaka, to discuss a range of bilateral initiatives.

The meeting was co-chaired by Bangladeshi Finance Minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal, and Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, minister of state, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE.

Senior officials of both sides attended the meeting face-to-face, while their team leaders joined the meeting virtually.

Facebook says hackers in Pakistan targeted Afghan users amid government collapse

Nov 16 (Reuters) - Hackers from Pakistan used Facebook to target people in Afghanistan with connections to the previous government during the Taliban's takeover of the country, the company's threat investigators said in an interview with Reuters.

Facebook (FB.O) said the group, known in the security industry as SideCopy, shared links to websites hosting malware which could surveil people's devices. Targets included people connected to the government, military and law enforcement in Kabul, it said. Facebook said it removed SideCopy from its platform in August.

Indian reporters accused of sparking tensions granted bail

GAUHATI, India (AP) — Two Indian journalists who were detained over the weekend on charges of inciting communal violence after tweeting that religious attacks on Muslims were worse than police had reported were granted bail by a court in the northeastern state of Tripura.

Samriddhi K. Sakunia and Swarna Jha were reporting on religious tensions in the state, where there were attacks against minority Muslims last month. Police said at least one mosque and several shops and homes belonging to Muslims were vandalized, but reported no deaths.

India: Green Park will soon have its outstanding museum

Kanpur: The Green Park International Stadium will soon have its museum. The gallery is being developed on the back portion of the director's pavilion.

Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar is overseeing the project and organising the development.

A state-of-the-art visitors' gallery will be inaugurated at the museum in a few weeks.

The museum aims to chronicle the significant history of the one-time permanent Test centre.

Despite mistrust, Afghan Shiites seek Taliban protection

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Outside a Shiite shrine in Kabul, four armed Taliban fighters stood guard on a recent Friday as worshippers filed in for weekly prayers. Alongside them was a guard from Afghanistan’s mainly Shiite Hazara minority, an automatic rifle slung over his shoulder.

It was a sign of the strange, new relationship brought by the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. The Taliban, Sunni hard-liners who for decades targeted the Hazaras as heretics, are now their only protection against a more brutal enemy: the Islamic State group.
