India: Bitthoor's historic well exists at Nana Rao Peshwa Palace

Kannur: There were a total of eight wells around the Nana Saheb Peshwa Palace complex in Bitthoor. As many as 7 wells have been destroyed.

The remaining historical well, which contains memories of history, exists near Nana Rao Peshwa Memorial Park in Nanarao Peshwa Palace.

Wells were very deep. In this one particular well, there is a big round iron griddle which never allows the water sources to dry up.

Hence this well is always filled with water. It is said that Narang, the horse of Rani Laxmibai used to drink water from this well.

India: PM Modi sets sights on developed India by 2047

New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday set an ambitious target of making India a developed nation by 2047 and made a renewed pitch for cutting import dependence and boosting domestic manufacturing.

New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asserted that free education and healthcare are not freebies and said if people are given access to them, India can become the top country in the world.

Hyderabad, Aug 15 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday launched a broadside against the NDA government at the Centre, alleging that it is hurting federal values, weakening the states financially and also centralising powers.

In his Independence Day address after hoisting the national flag at the historic Golconda Fort here, he said the makers of the nation's Constitution put in place a federal structure as they wanted the Centre and states together to lead the march of progress.

FPIs invest Rs 22,452-cr in Indian equities in Aug on softening inflation concerns

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) After turning net buyers last month, foreign investors have become aggressive shoppers of Indian equities and have invested Rs 22,452 crore in the first two weeks of August amid softening inflation concerns.

This was way higher than a net investment of nearly Rs 5,000 crore by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in the entire month of July, data with depositories showed.

FPIs had turned net buyers for the first time in July, after nine straight months of massive net outflows, which started in October last year.

India: 2 men arrested in Rajasthan for spying for Pakistan

Jaipur, Aug 13 (PTI) The intelligence wing of the Rajasthan Police arrested two men for allegedly spying for Pakistan, officials said on Saturday.

The accused were identified as Narayan Lal Gadri, 27, a resident of Bhilwara, and Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat, 24, of Jaipur. They were interrogated jointly by intelligence agencies.

Officials said Gadri provided SIM cards of Indian telecom companies to be used by his Pakistani handlers to run social media accounts.

India: BJP can't be blamed if Naga issue is not resolved

Kohima, Aug 14 (PTI) The Centre is willing to provide a solution for the Naga political issue, but Nagas have to be inclusive to accept it, state BJP president Temjen Imna Along said.

Speaking to reporters, Along said the willingness to settle the age-old Naga political issue is the endeavour of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

"The Government of India (GOI) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to provide a settlement, but are we completely inclusive to accept it?" he said on Saturday.

India: Terror module busted in Punjab ahead of Independence Day

Chandigarh, Aug 14 (PTI) Ahead of Independence Day, the Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a Pakistan ISI-backed terror module and arrested four persons.

Three hand grenades, one IED (improvised explosive device), two pistols and 40 cartridges were recovered, it added.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Punjab Police and the Delhi Police.

India: Rains bring viral and bacterial infections, three kids die in Kanpur

Kanpur: Viral and bacterial infections are increasing during the rainy season. In the OPD of Paediatric Hospital, there was a line of patients suffering from fever, pneumonia and diarrhoea.

Similarly, patients with fever and viral infection with symptoms of dengue came more to the OPD of Medicine Department. In addition, three children died of pneumonia, as has been reported.

In the paediatric ICU of the maternity wing, 20 children are put on ventilators. The patients developed pneumonia after a viral infection.
