India: Bitthoor's historic well exists at Nana Rao Peshwa Palace

Kannur: There were a total of eight wells around the Nana Saheb Peshwa Palace complex in Bitthoor. As many as 7 wells have been destroyed.

The remaining historical well, which contains memories of history, exists near Nana Rao Peshwa Memorial Park in Nanarao Peshwa Palace.

Wells were very deep. In this one particular well, there is a big round iron griddle which never allows the water sources to dry up.

Hence this well is always filled with water. It is said that Narang, the horse of Rani Laxmibai used to drink water from this well.

Near the shady trees of this well, Rani Lakshmibai and Tatya Tope used to sit with their army and make strategies against the British army.

It is also said that during the revolution of 1857, when the British attacked the Peshwa Mahal, women along with the children gave up their lives by jumping into this well.
