Commentary: Stop making waves in Taiwan Strait

BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- A recent comment from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on the Taiwan issue, part of an aggressive speech against China, was illogical and absurd, and sent the wrong signal to separatists in Taiwan.

In a speech on Oct. 4, Pence accused China of threatening the stability of the Strait by establishing diplomatic relations with three Latin American countries.

His comment was an attempt to cause trouble concerning China's core interest, raising reasonable doubt about the intentions of the United States.

Premier Li calls upon Asia, Europe to build open world economy

BRUSSELS, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Friday urged Asia and Europe to stay committed to building an open world economy.

Li made the appeal when addressing the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels.

The hard-won momentum of the world economic recovery still demands adhering towards the direction of open development, and promoting a more inclusive and balanced global division of labor, Li said.

China's foreign trade up 9.9 pct in first nine months

BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's goods trade rose 9.9 percent year on year to 22.28 trillion yuan (about 3.23 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of the year, customs data showed Friday.

Exports increased 6.5 percent in the same period to 11.86 trillion yuan while imports grew 14.1 percent to 10.42 trillion yuan, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.44 trillion yuan, which narrowed by 28.3 percent, according to the General Administration of Customs.

China's Xinjiang region legalizes Muslim internment camps

In practice, the centers are internment camps in which as many as 1 million minority Muslims have been placed in the past 12 months, according to rights groups and NGO reports.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked for further comment on the U.S. leader's recent allegations that China is "interfering in" the 2018 mid-term U.S. elections, just one day after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to China.

China to sell 48 high-end armed drones to Pakistan

Beijing, Oct 9 :  China will sell 48 high-end armed drones to its "all-weather ally" Pakistan in what a military observer said will be the largest deal of its kind, official media here reported Tuesday.

The cost of the major defence deal was not revealed.

Wing Loong II is a high-end reconnaissance, strike and multi-role endurance unmanned aerial system, capable of being fitted with air-to-surface weapons.

It is roughly equivalent to the American MQ-9 Reaper drone.

China tells Pompeo US must stop 'misguided actions'

Beijing, Oct 8; AFP: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo faced a testy exchange with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing on Monday, days after a blistering US denunciation of the Asian power's global and domestic policies.

Pompeo and Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the schism after the chief US diplomat arrived in Beijing on the final leg of an Asian trip focused on North Korea's nuclear issue.

Former Interpol chief suspected of corruption

BEIJING, October 8. /TASS/. Former Interpol President and China’s Deputy Minister of Public Security Meng Hongwei is suspected of bribery and other crimes, the ministry said in a statement on Monday, adding that a probe was underway.

"Chinese State Council member and Party Committee Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security Zhao Kezhi announced at the October 8 meeting of the committee that Meng Hongwei was suspected of bribery and other crimes. The National Supervisory Commission is conducting a probe against him," the statement reads.

Chinese state councilor meets U.S. state secretary, calling for win-win cooperation

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday met with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, saying that China and the United States should follow the right path of win-win cooperation, rather than go astray toward conflict and confrontation.

Wang said Pompeo proposed his visit to China and the Chinese side was willing to arrange meetings.
