China: National reunification, rejuvenation unstoppable: mainland official

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- National reunification and rejuvenation are the common aspirations of the people, follow general trends and will not be stopped by any force, the Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief stressed Tuesday.

Liu Jieyi, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks while meeting with delegates from Taiwan attending a non-governmental roundtable discussion in Beijing.

China’s yuan sinks to 10-year low against dollar

BEIJING (AP) — China’s yuan sank to a 10-year low against the dollar on Monday, coming close to breaking the politically sensitive level of seven to the U.S. currency.

The yuan declined to 6.9644 per dollar at midday, passing its most recent low in 2016 before recovering slightly. It was the lowest level since May 2008.

The currency’s weakness is one of a series of elements fueling Washington’s trade complaints against Beijing. The U.S. Treasury Department declined this month to label China a currency manipulator but said it was closely watching Beijing.

Death toll rises to 19 in Chinese coal mine accident

Beijing, Oct 29 (PTI) Six more Chinese workers trapped in a coal mine in east China's Shandong Province have died, taking the death toll from the accident to 19, officials said on Monday.

The bodies of six workers trapped in the coal mine were found on Sunday, state-run Xinhua news agency reported, citing the rescue operations.

The accident occurred at Longyun Coal Mining Co. Ltd. in Yuncheng County on October 20.

China donates prefabricated houses for displaced people in Myanmar's western state

YANGON, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- China handed over 1,000 prefabricated houses worth 15.9 billion kyats (10.3 million U.S. dollars) to Myanmar authorities for displaced people in Rakhine state at Myanmar Thilawa Port Saturday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe of the State Counselor's office thanked China for its efforts in the rehabilitation process in Rakhine state.

Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang pledged to continue assisting the Myanmar government in view of the friendship between the two countries.

China, Japan sign currency swap deal

BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank said Friday that it has inked a bilateral currency swap agreement with its counterpart in Japan.

The agreement will allow the two sides to swap a total of 200 billion yuan (about 28.78 billion U.S. dollars) for 3.4 trillion Japanese yen, and vice versa, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said on its website.

The move was aimed at enhancing financial stability of the two countries and facilitating bilateral economic and financial exchanges, the PBOC said.

US beware, Beijing won’t tolerate blackmail

New freight route links China, Pakistan

LANZHOU, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A new rail and road cargo service was launched Tuesday, linking Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, with Islamabad in Pakistan.

The first train carrying 30 carriages of mechanical equipment, auto parts and daily necessities left a logistics center Tuesday morning in Lanzhou, bound for Kashgar in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The goods will then be transported to Islamabad by a highway.

US pullout from INF Treaty will trigger negative consequences, Chinese diplomat warns

BEIJING, October 22. /TASS/. Washington’s withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) will result in negative consequences, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday.

"The US unilateral withdrawal from the treaty [INF] will have a multilateral negative effect," the Chinese diplomat said.

US President Donald Trump’s remark on China was "an absolute mistake," she noted. "We hope that all the sides will be able to solve all issues of concern through dialogue."
