Austria: OSCE head welcomes Russia’s role in facilitating ceasefire in Karabakh

VIENNA, October 10. /TASS/: OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has welcomed Russia’s role in convening the talks between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Moscow, which resulted in ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said in a press statement on Saturday.

The statement says that the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office emphasized the significance of a humanitarian pause to exchange prisoners of war, detainees, and the bodies of those killed in fighting.

Austria's Kurz reiterates opposition to taking in asylum seekers from Moria

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz on Saturday reiterated his opposition to taking in asylum seekers from the destroyed Moria refugee camp in Greece, prompting criticism from his government coalition partner the Greens and from the opposition.

The fires at Europe’s largest refugee centre, which left more than 12,000 people without shelter, have returned the spotlight to issue of refugees and migrants coming to the European Union, which has struggled to find a response.

Austria: Relevant parties reaffirm commitment to Iran nuclear deal despite challenges

VIENNA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Relevant parties reaffirmed their commitment here on Tuesday to preserve and implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.

Secretary general of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid, who chaired a meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission, wrote on Twitter that participants of the meeting were "united in resolve to preserve the Iran Deal and find a way to ensure full implementation of the agreement despite current challenges".

Germany to extend insolvency moratorium for virus-hit companies

VIENNA (Reuters) - German coalition parties have agreed to extend a freeze on insolvency rules put in place to avoid a wave of corporate bankruptcies due to the coronavirus crisis, Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Vienna, Scholz said his centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc sealed a compromise deal ahead of a coalition meeting scheduled later on Tuesday.

Austria: IAEA Chief To Visit Tehran Tomorrow

VIENNA, Aug 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, will travel to Tehran tomorrow, to meet with high-level Iranian authorities, IAEA said.

The visit will be the director general’s first to Iran, since he took office last Dec, the statement said.

During his visit, Grossi will address the cooperation of Iran with the IAEA, and in particular Iran’s provision of access to the agency’s inspectors to requested locations, it said.

Austrian leaders condemn attack against Jewish community in Graz

(Reuters) - Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and other senior government politicians said they were shocked over an attack on a Jewish community leader in the southern city of Graz on Saturday, and ordered tighter security at Jewish institutions around Austria.

An unknown assailant attacked the Graz Jewish community’s president, Elie Rosen, with a wooden club on the premises of their synagogue, which was twice targeted by acts of vandalism in the past week, the community said in a statement late on Saturday.

Austria: IAEA chief Grossi plans trip to pressure Iran on access to suspect sites

VIENNA (Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdog’s chief Rafael Grossi will make his first trip to Tehran in that role on Monday to pressure Iran to grant inspectors access to two suspected former atomic sites after a months-long standoff, he said on Saturday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution in June raising pressure on Iran to let inspectors into the sites mentioned in two quarterly IAEA reports because they could still host undeclared nuclear material or traces of it.

Train loaded with "Made in Austria" goods leaves Vienna for China

VIENNA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A train loaded with fibers and pulp used for textiles pulled out of the Vienna South Terminal heading for China on Thursday, marking the first time a train with goods exclusively "Made in Austria" going from the Alpine country to China.

"For the first time in the history of Austria, a local company is sending goods that are 100 percent produced in Austria directly to China by train," the Lenzing Group said in a press statement.

Second round of U.S.-Russia disarmament talks to start in Vienna

VIENNA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Russia will start the second round of nuclear disarmament talks here on Monday.

U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Arms Control Marshall Billingslea and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will meet for the second time in Vienna.

"Heading to Austria for #armscontrol talks," Billingslea tweeted on Friday, adding that the United States was sending "one of the highest level delegations ever."
