India: 21 foreigners who had attended Tablighi meet arrested

Thane, Apr 23 (PTI) The crime branch of Thane police on Thursday arrested 25 persons including 21 foreign nationals who had allegedly attended a gathering of the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi in March.

They were arrested after their quarantine period was over. A court later granted them bail, an official said.

India: UP farmhouse of Tablighi Jamaat leader raided

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) The Delhi Police's Crime Branch has raided a farmhouse of Tablighi Jamaat leader Maulana Saad Kandhavli, who was booked for organising a religious congregation here in violation of COVID-19 lockdown orders, officials said on Thursday.

The raid was carried out at Kandhavli's farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, they said.

India studying Trump's executive order on immigration

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) India is studying the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump to temporarily halt immigration for 60 days, government sources said on Thursday, noting that people-to-people contact has been the "bedrock" of strategic ties between the two countries.

On Wednesday, the US President signed the order temporarily stopping foreigners from getting green cards and curbing immigration with an aim to protecting the jobs of Americans in an economy battered by the coronavirus pandemic.

India: Three SRPF jawans test positive for coronavirus in Pune

Pune, Apr 23 (PTI) Three State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) jawans based in Pune have tested positive for coronavirus, a senior official said on Thursday.

"A companyof around 100 jawans was posted in Mumbai for last two months. They had returned to the Pune headquarters on Saturday, and during check-up, some jawans were found to have symptoms," said the SRPF official.

Three of them tested positive on Wednesday, he added.

All three were admitted to Bharti Vidyapeeth Hospital, he said.

India: 2 FIRs lodged against Arnab Goswami in Punjab

Batala/Fazilka, Apr 23 (PTI) Two FIRs were lodged against senior journalist Arnab Goswami on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and targeting a particular community during a debate on a TV show, police said.

The FIRs were registered at Batala and Abohar (Fazilka) police stations based on complaints filed by Congress workers Roshan and Harmohinder, respectively, they said.

Lucknow, Apr 24 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Sitapur, whose purported audio clip criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral on social media, has been asked by the party leadership to explain his alleged anti-party activities.

"A show cause notice has been served to party MLA from Sitapur Sadar Rakesh Rathore for indiscipline. Complaints were coming against him for his involvement in anti-party activities. He has been given seven days time to explain," a party release quoted BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh as saying.

New Delhi, Apr 24 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday granted protection against any coercive steps for three weeks to Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in connection with some FIRs lodged against him in various states for alleged defamatory statements made during the news shows on recent Palghar mob-lynching of three persons including two saints in Maharashtra.
