India: UP will allow stranded people to home: Adityanath

Lucknow, Apr 22 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government will allow other states to take their stranded residents home if they wished, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday.

At a review meeting here on the coronavirus crises, Adityanath said the UP government will give permission and cooperate with other states on this.

Uttar Pradesh recently sent buses to bring home its own students stranded in Rajasthan's Kota. Earlier, the government briefly allowed the movement of migrant workers heading back to Uttar Pradesh.

India: Minor Dalit girl raped in UP's Amethi

Amethi, Apr 22 (PTI) A minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped here, police said on Wednesday.

Circle Officer, Amethi, Piyush Kant Rai on Wednesday said, "In the police complaint lodged by the father of the 11-year-old girl, he said his daughter was raped on April 19 by a person hailing from Shitalaganj. A case under various sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and SC/ST Act has been registered at Sangrampur police station".

The girl has been sent for medical examination, Rai said, and added that the accused will be arrested soon.

India: Man arrested in Maha for refusing delivery from a Muslim

Thane, Apr 22 (PTI) A resident of Kashimira locality in the district has been arrested for allegedly refusing to take delivery from a Muslim person.

Gajanan Chaturvedi (51) was booked under IPC section 295(A) (malicious act outraging religious feelings) on Tuesday night, a police official said.

India: IWPC expresses shock over gov action against 3 journalists in J&K

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) The Indian Women's Press Corps on Wednesday expressed shock over three journalists being booked by law enforcement authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that the action was aimed at "striking fear in the hearts of journalists".

The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has been used against freelance photographer Masarat Zahra, a fellow woman journalist. The act was meant to deal with hardened terrorists, the IWPC said in a statement.

India: Odisha police seals 57 roads to West Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (PTI) With four more persons having travel history to Kolkata testing positive for COVID-19 in the state, Odisha Police on Wednesday sealed roads along the West Bengal border.

The roads were sealed and additional force deployment was made a day after DGP Abhaya visited the border check gates.

Fitch Ratings sees India growth slipping to 0.8% in FY21

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) Fitch Ratings on Thursday slashed India's economic growth projections to 0.8 per cent in the current 2020-21 fiscal saying an unparalleled global recession was underway due to disruptions caused by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and resultant lockdowns.

In its Global Economic Outlook, Fitch Ratings said India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth will slip to 0.8 per cent for the year April 2020 to March 2021 (FY21) as compared to an estimated 4.9 per cent growth in the previous fiscal.

India: Lockdown norms partially relaxed in Karnataka from today

Bengaluru, Apr 23 (PTI) The Karnataka government has partially relaxed COVID-19 lockdown norms in the state allowing IT and IT-enabled services to operate with essential minimum staff and also certain construction activities, manufacturing of packaging materials, courier services, among others from Thursday.

The activities will be permitted only outside the COVID-19 containment zones identified by the government.

India: Two girls aged seven and eight raped in UP's Chitrakoot

Banda(UP), Apr 23 (PTI) Two minor girls were allegedly raped by their cousin at a village in neighbouring Chitrakoot district, police said on Thursday.

The girls, aged seven and eight, were playing outside their house on Wednesday afternoon when Balveer Singh (32) allegedly took them to a secluded spot and raped them in a village under the Rajapur police station, SHO Gulab Chandra Tripathi said.

India: Six-year-old girl raped in MP, her eyes damaged by accused

Damoh (MP), Apr 23 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh by an unidentified person, who also damaged her eyes, a police official said on Thursday.

The incident took place at a village in Jabera tehsil on Wednesday evening when the minor was playing outside her house with other children, police said.
