Indian Army personnel killed, civilian injured as Pak shells forward posts in Rajouri, Poonch

Jammu, June 11 (PTI) An Army personnel was killed and a civilian injured as the Pakistani Army heavily shelled villages and forward posts along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts on Thursday, officials said.

This is fourth consecutive day of firing and shelling by the Pakistan Army.

Officials said the Pakistan Army opened fire and shelled civilian areas and forward posts in Nowshera sector this morning, leaving an Army man dead and a villager injured.

Indian troops guarding the borderline retaliated resulting in heavy exchanges, they said.

Delhi Heath Min will arrange 15,000 beds by Jun 20

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) Delhi Health minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said the city government will arrange 15,000 beds for COVID-19 patients by June 20 and asserted that preparations are being made to meet the projected healthcare infrastructure requirement.

He said the Delhi government is preparing for the "foreseeable situation of June 30", and for that, preparations are being made for COVID infrastructure in stadiums, banquet halls, and hotels.

India: BJP bid to poach MLAs, destabilise Rajasthan govt: Cong

Jaipur, Jun 10 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday charged the BJP with attempts to destabilise the Rajasthan government even as party MLAs were taken to a luxury resort in Jaipur for a meeting called by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The development has taken place ahead of the June 19 elections to three Rajya Sabha seats in the state.

India: Delhi Cop commits suicide in police station

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) A 56-year-old assistant sub-inspector of Delhi Police allegedly committed suicide inside a police station here on Wednesday, officials said.

Harendra was posted at Shahdara district's PCR unit since 2018, they said.

Around 7 am, Harendra went into duty officer's room of Krishna Nagar police station and picked up a pistol of another ASI on the pretext of cleaning it, a senior police officer said.

However, he then went to barrack and shot himself in the chest, the officer said.

India: 28 CRPF personnel posted in Kashmir test COVID positive

Srinagar, Jun 10 (PTI) As many as 28 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel posted in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, officials said.

They said the personnel were found infected during a contact-tracing exercise after the death of a 44-year-old coronavirus-infected constable on June 6.

The officials said they had collected samples of 75 personnel from the 90th battalion where the deceased constable, a nursing assistant, was posted.

India: Man-eater tiger captured in Chandrapur forest in Maha

Chandrapur, Jun 11 (PTI) A tiger, which had killed at least five persons in and around Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, was captured by forest authorities, an official said on Thursday.

The big cat named KT-1 was tranquilised and captured by forest officials near Kolara forest range on Wednesday, chief conservator of forests at TATR N P Pravin said.

India: For Dabbawalas of Mumbai, future is uncertain

Mumbai, Jun 10 (PTI) When lockdown was announced, the famous Dabbawalas or lunch box carriers of Mumbai returned to their villages.

Some of them had their agricultural farms to fall back on, but then came Cyclone Nisarga, which laid waste to their houses as well as crops in the fields.

Like others in the unorganised sector, they too need help from the government, said Subhash Talekar, spokesperson of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association, on Wednesday.

India: 6 Tabligi Markaz attendee foreigners granted bail in UP; not allowed to leave India

Lucknow, Jun 9 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to six foreign nationals who had arrived here after attending a religious congregation at the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi and were booked under several sections of the law including the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Passport Act.

The bail was granted by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on June 2.

India: 14 jail staff in Aurangabad contract COVID-19

Aurangabad, Jun 10 (PTI) As many as 14 staff members of the Harsul jail in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, a prison official said.

Earlier, 29 undertrial prisoners of the jail had tested positive for the disease following which samples of the prison's administration staff were sent for testing.

Reports of 14 jail staff members, including two officers, came out positive on Wednesday, a senior prison official said.

India: Seven task forces set up for efficient implementation of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' in J-K

Jammu, Jun 10 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration has constituted seven task forces for efficient and speedy implementation of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' (ABA) in the Union Territory, with a focus on economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, an official spokesman said on Wednesday.

The task forces, which have been constituted under the chairmanship of various administrative secretaries, are mandated with the task of ensuring hassle-free implementation of all the elements of ABA in mission mode.
