India: Petrol, diesel price hiked by 60 paisa per litre for second straight day in Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 60 paisa per litre on Monday, for the second day in a row, as state-owned oil firms reverted to daily price revisions after a 83-day hiatus.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 72.46 per litre from Rs 71.86 on Sunday, while diesel rates were increased to Rs 70.59 a litre from Rs 69.99, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

India: UP ATS arrests arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists

Lucknow, Jun 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad on Sunday arrested an alleged arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists, a senior officer said.

Additional Director General of the ATS, Dhruva Kant Thakur, said, "The UP ATS has arrested Javed, an arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists, from Hapur. Javed is a resident of the Kithore area of Meerut. His interrogation is on and the Punjab Police has been informed about the arrest."

Thakur said Javed has also supplied illegal arms to criminals in Amritsar.

India: HP's COVID-19 recovery rate improves to 54 per cent

Shimla, Jun 7 (PTI) Twenty-nine COVID-19 patients in Himachal Pradesh recovered on Sunday, taking the recovery rate in the hill state to 54 per cent, officials said.

A total of 223 patients have been cured of the virus in the state so far.

The state also reported 11 fresh cases with four in Kangra, two each in Chamba and Hamirpur and one each in Mandi, Shimla and Bilaspur, they said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 412 while six people have died of the disease.

India: Places of worship all set to reopen in Kerala on June 9

Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (PTI) As places of worship across Kerala are all set to reopen on Tuesday following easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions by the government, a few churches, temples and mosques in the southern state have decided not to open its doors to devotees till the month end.

The Angamally-Ernakulam diocese, which decided to remain shut due to the COVID-19 situation, was followed by a few other denominations including Niranam archdioceseof Jacobite faction, and informed that they will be closed till June 30.

India: Gairsain declared summer capital of Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Jun 8 (PTI) Gairsain in Chamoli district was declared as the summer capital of Uttarakhand on Monday.

A notification in this regard was issued by Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh after Governor Baby Rani Maurya gaver her assent to the move.

Expressing happiness on Gairsain being formally declared the summer capital of Uttarakhand, Pradesh BJP vice president Devendra Bhasin said by doing so the party has fulfilled a major promise made in its poll manifesto.

India: BJP's Bihar virtual rally show of money power

Lucknow, Jun 8 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged on Monday that the BJP was using money power and holding virtual rallies in Bihar to break the morale of the opposition parties there.

"After defeat in Jharkhand, the BJP is understanding that people are against it in Bihar too," Yadav tweeted. "That's why it did a Rs 150 crore virtual rally to show its money and muscle power as it wants to break morale of the Opposition."

Ram temple construction to begin on demolished mosque land on June 10

Ayodhya, June 8 (PTI): The construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is set to begin Wednesday when the first bricks will be laid for its foundation, according to a spokesperson for the head of the temple trust.

The event will be marked by prayers to Lord Shiva at the Kuber Tila shrine on the Ram Janmabhoomi site, allocated for the temple in a historic Supreme Court verdict last November.

India: Lean business on first day as malls reopen in Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) Business remained lean as malls and shopping centres in the national capital re-opened on Monday after more than two months, with only a few people stepping out to shop and eat.

Though most of the shops, offices and restaurants reopened at Saket's Select City Walk, one of the prominent malls in the city, only a handful of shoppers visited it in the initial hours.

The focus remained on the hourly disinfection of the common areas, contact-less shopping and physical distancing to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

India: COVID-19 toll rises to 7200; record jump in cases

New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) The novel coronavirus toll rose to 7,200 with 271 more deaths and the number of infections climbed to 2,56,611 in India on Monday after a record single-day spike of 9,983 cases, the Health Ministry said in its revised data.

The country has been registering over 9,000 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) for the fifth day in a row.

There are 1,24,981 active cases while 1,24,429 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the ministry said in its updated data at 8 am.
